There you go, jido - exactly the mini I'm using at present:
As Philip says: only 3GB+ is recognised, but it all works well. _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

I just tried to upgrade MM2010 RAM to 4GB with original apple RAM from MM late 2009. Bank 0 doesn't like the RAM at all, only beeps. In bank 1 there is no problem with the RAM. PRAM/NVRAM reset doesn' t helps. Any ideas? _________________ Mac Mini 2,53 GHz, 8GB RAM, 80GB X-25 M SSD+1TB HDD

Hi Phil,
yes, if I put the oem 2010 ram back into the 2010 MM it works again without a problem. They also works in the 2009 MM and they are not kingston, they are Micron, which are apple shipped with the 2009 MM. But again, the problem is located only with Bank 0, if I put the oem 2010 MM ram(1GB) in the Bank 0 and the oem 2009 MM ram (2GB) in the Bank 1, everything is fine and MM shows 3GB of ram.
You can see the original RAM (Samsung) and the MM 2009 RAM (Micron) here:

I'm really confused, because I remember very well this situations back in the PowerPC times, but now again? _________________ Mac Mini 2,53 GHz, 8GB RAM, 80GB X-25 M SSD+1TB HDD

I picked up a 1 GB Kingston DDR-3200 module from Newegg for $45 for mine a few months ago. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134008 but I haven't installed it yet. I just got around to opening the thing up last night and when Midnight came along I put things down and went to bed.
In addition to the 1 GB RAM module, I'm installing a 320GB hard drive http://amzn.com/B001SQH1DY and replacing the CDRW/DVD-ROM drive with a DVDRW drive. I'm not sure whether to use the Toshiba TS-632 or the Hitachi AWG-4080 though. Probably doesn't matter.
I'm going to set this up with a couple of external drives as the house iTunes server, replacing a large bulky Beige G3 that's currently doing the job. I'd like to use it as the backup server as well, but my backup storage devices are SCSI based, and I don't see any way to make that work. _________________ A friend will help you move. Just got a second-hand mini 2010 and tried to test it with some RAM sticks that I had in other computers before purchasing RAM for upgrade (I'm thinking of using 8+8 GB). Naturally, it failed to boot with Elpida PC3-12800 sticks from mini 2012, but when I tried 4+4 Samsung PC10600, i was in for a surprise. It started up, alright - but what was a bit unexpected is that this RAM shows as 1333 MHz! Which should not even be possible, since P8600 processor has 1066 MHz FSB. I tried to run the AHT, but there's a message that my system doesn't support it, and I don't have original media.
Is there any other program I could use to check/test actual RAM performance?
If that's of any help, I'm running clean install of ML 10.8.4 on an SSD drive I replaced the original HDD with.
Also, if anyone has an idea how this reading is possible on this computer, please share |
