The aluminium bars look good, although personally I'd prefer to use 6" shelving (plastic-coated wood) to avoid scratching the Mac Pro's handles. Much cheaper, and probably easier to work, when screwing to the underside of a desktop. Still: I'm keen to see anybody's results...

I have used 1/2 inch aluminum bars and can cut it to 315mm and 475mm. I would use felt sheets on the ends of the bar.

you need a lot of precautions to cut aluminum. googles and mask and clamps. polish it you need the same protection.

It wont cost anything, for a few. The scenic shops where i work in the cooler months are stocked with aluminum All shapes & sizes mostly 30' long They unload trailers with forklifts every two weeks.
I cant put a price on that, they buy in bulk.
The non-ferrous saw blades at work cost around $400 each, there made to cut aluminum all day long & i have.
Im a union carpenter for almost 30 years cutting aluminum is part of my job & like phlip posted "precautions" should be taken I seen many fingers fly off of great carpenters over the years & they all say the same thing i took my mind off of what i was doing 
Not the regular DIY project.
Anyway, im thinking a 1/4" piece of aluminum stock using a radial arm saw & setting the blade depth to 1/8" and "dado" out the unwanted aluminum, leaving around 1/16" at the ends so the Mac cant slide off ( like the screw & washer in the original wood mount) this will be a different height so the handle can pass through & when sliding the Mac on the bracket you have to keep in mind the dimension of the handle is going to change due to the angle needed to slide the mac on the bracket.
Have to get those numbers right the 1st time.

Hay tales
Years ago I had a friend who worked at a company that
fabricated steel drums along with many other things. He
had some really gruesome stories about how some of the
workers lost fingers, limbs and even a few lives.
Sign me up for a free bracket though I don't mind paying
you for your time. I know their's no free lunch.

Agreed: I'd be the first to say: don't rely on my dimensions, get a MacPro to measure! (unless someone else wants to try a cheapie out of wooden shelving pieces first).

If i do this In the fall I will make a pine model first. then copy to aluminum.

" yes " metal work is not the same as woodworking. A lot harder. I remember the first time I worked with stainless steel I burned up a lot of bits much harder then Aluminum. I have a few nice pieces of copper laying around that would be nice but I would have to protect the Aluminum from the copper. They don't mix well in damp Jersey air.

The UBC lost a NYC Union 608 I think im leaving the NYCDCC by March.
As of now I don't think im going back to TV/Broadway Scenic shops.
After years of failing a test for motion pictures (shop craft) i finally pasted 
There's no metal shop there, just carpentry.

Yes its a good thing. Im i member of the UBC http://www.nycdistrictcouncil.com/ too many members & not enough work. The pay rate is high $47 an hour and around $35 an hour for benefits.
Were loosing a lot of work to non union contractors who don't pay well & don't offer there workers benefits.
TV/Broadway is a different local (1 & 4 in NYC) then the motion picture local 52. The pay rate is higher then local 1 & 4 & no non union workers are allowed in the studios or on set.
Im out now recovering from meniscus surgery. Then i have to make more contacts in local 52 I still have a nice Annuity & pension from the UBC.
Tough times i had to make a change
