The top of my Mac Pro doesn't get warm at all, and in any case, there's still a substantial air-gap between the top of the case and the wooden bracket because of the handles' depth.

Thanks, but I can't take any credit. A guy (gal?) named Tesselator (from MacRumors forums) showed this a while back. I just happened to remember it when reading this thread, and thought it might help. _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

In my own case, with a G4 Mac Pro, the top is cool to the touch, whereas the back panel is very warm. | That settles it.
If I am able to swing a Mac Pro around Christmas
I'll feel the top. If its HOT or even VERY WARM then I'll
need to spring for a metal hanger. If its only WARM or
COOL, then its the 75ยข piece of wood. Maybe I should
spring for a $1.00 piece?

I'm hard of hearing so I speak loudly
by force of habit. You should hear
how load I am when I yell.
Its actually my eye sight. Making everything
slightly larger makes it easier to catch my
many mistakes.

Interesting, mooblie can you post some dimensions of the bracket? If i have time i could make one out of 1/4" aluminum at most it would be a 1/2" thick at center.
And i could get it very close to the color of aluminum Macs.
Im a carpenter & have access to a full metal shop at work, maybe down the line i would try it.

approximately how much would it cost?
Just wondering. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

Sorry, I have to admit to not having built one myself - so you'd have to derive dimensions from a Mac Pro sample. As I said earlier, I saw this idea on Mac Rumors - from a guy named Tesselator there (who doesn't post there anymore). Sorry I can't help more. _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

How about measuring the inner dimensions of the two top loop/handle
thingy's (sorry for being so technical) to give us a reasonable idea of
a (your) Mac Pro's dimensions. Then "tales" can make us all some
sweet brackets. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

OKOKOK. But if Mr.Topographic makes some, I want a prototype to test! ...and some royalties from the huge profits to be made from the manufacturing run...
(Sorry about the millimetres: I'm European, you see!)
Actually, I'll say it again: we have Tesselator of MacRumors to thank for this. _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

the above piece could work
translates to
one .5 inch by 6 inch by 12 inch and
one .5 inch by 6 inch by 18 inch
with a spare of 17 in long
these are close exact is
.59 by 6.1 by 12.4
second is .59 by 6.1 by 17.9
the piece from ebay is long enough close enough to width 6 vs 6.1 thickness is .5 vs . 59 _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram
