I've looked at various ways to mount it
but they've all been very expensive for
what appears to be a few rods and clamps.
I wanted to mount my displays to the wall
but the same problem, way to expensive. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

I think we broke down and tossed our old computer desks, if there are any parts I'll let you know I can send the CPU mount if we have one. _________________ iMac 24" 2.4 GHz 4GB | Logitech S530 | Z-2300 speakers | NewerTech Guardian MAXimus RAID

Ikea has a relatively cheap computer hanger deal.
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30090438
Or search Ikea for the SUMMERA computer holder.

Boy Smithy, thats cheap.....I mean inexpensive.
Its a shame I no longer live in Houston. I bought my "memory foam"
mattress fron them. It was less than half the price of that Swedish
mattress advertised on TV. They don't mail order a lot of their stuff.
I'll have to check their online catalog if I buy a Mac Pro around Christmas.
Thank you for finding that.
Oops, "not for sale from on line catalog". _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

Take a look at this movie:
http://tesselator.gpmod.com/Images/_Movies/DIY_Drawing.mov
Really cheap to do, and it can be positioned to put the Mac Pro hard up against the underside (and the front edge) of your desk! Maybe you know someone handy with a saw and drill? Very simple/elegant DIY design. _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

Hot air rises, the ikea "computer mount" has much more room from the top of the Rig to the bottom of the desk for dispensing heat. _________________ iMac 3.06ghz 27" 4gb ram C2D 1TB/LaCie d2 1T

tales is correct, but if you use a pair of 2 by 6 then a 1 by 6 you would be 4 inches from the bottom of the desk. the film looks like it is using a 1 by 6 then a longer 1 by 6.
also the longer 1 by 6 can have a few holes in it and still be strong this would let more heat vent off the mac pro _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

I thought in the new Mac Pro
their were two fans. One in
the lower front and one in the
lower back. Wouldn't this suggest
heat is lower not higher and that
the two fans move the hot air out
before it rises? _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

My HD-DVR, PS3 & mini all have fans in the back & the top still gets hot/warm
the fan sensors might make the fans work harder. Maybe?
From the grain of the wood in the video it looks like one piece of wood either 3/4" (1X) or 5/4" with the ends dadoed about a 1/4" deep
A 1X6 with a shorter 1/4" batten would work like the video. Still think a computer mount or a external OD is a better choice
Good Luck! _________________ iMac 3.06ghz 27" 4gb ram C2D 1TB/LaCie d2 1T

The ONLY grills on the Mac Pro are the front and back panels, so I don't understand why there is any concern at how close the top panel is to the underside of a desk, or how that makes any difference to the cooling? _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

A simple test would be to feel the top of your normally running Mac Pro, if it feels warm or hot, then butting it up tight to any form of insulation is probably not a good idea as it is removing heat by radiation.
In my own case, with a G4 Mac Pro, the top is cool to the touch, whereas the back panel is very warm. _________________ DropBox, free cloud storage for all, check it out Here |

If the top doesn't get warn maybe it wont be a problem mounting it like that.
Just seems the computer mount is better, if you bump into a computer mounted in the stand it rocks. If you bump into the computer mounted with wood something is going to give. _________________ iMac 3.06ghz 27" 4gb ram C2D 1TB/LaCie d2 1T
