How come the Data Rate on my Ram, says 1067 on each ram Chip in System Profiler?
I found a good deal on Ram & it is: OWC 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 1066MHz SO-DIMM Upgrade Kit For $80.
Is this the Ram I need?
I never have seen 1067, but that's what my iMac is reporting in System Profiler. Thanks! _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

I also just realized sometimes when I look in Sys. Profiler Bank 1 of Ram has an ECC next to it & sometimes it doesn't. Very strange! Where would there be an ECC showing sometimes & not other times. I Tested Ram with Rember & all reports are OK. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

1066 is really 10666 rounds up to 1067.
as for the ecc it may be there was a software update. thus causing the variation.
Another possibility is you looked with different programs running .
third one is I don't know. i will check the owc ram _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

I don't know! The ecc intermittent issue is too weird.
It's Just on Bank 1 though.
Anyway, this is pasted from the Seller:
OWC 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 1066MHz SO-DIMM Upgrade Kit
Looks like the Ticket. Hopefully it works & it's not sold. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

I'm getting the ram on Thursday for $70. I hope it works! CraigsList is a tough Call sometimes. Although I have never had a bad experience yet. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

Got the Ram. Works Perfect! It's from OWC. $70. for 2 sticks of 2GB each. Brings me up to 8GB of Ram. That & the MyBook Studio 2TB Raid HD all in 1 week. Nice! _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

I have tested my 27 inch imac. with every combo I could do . as long as it is ddr3 204 pin 1066 ram it should work.
I tested 1 slot any one slot with a 1gb stick a 2gb stick a 4gb stick.
I tested 2 slots with all combos of 1gb 2gb 4gb sticks.
I tested 3 slots with all combos of 1gb 2gb 4gb sticks.
I tested all four slots with all combos of 1gb 2gb and 4gb sticks.
all amount from 1gb to 16gb work except for 15gb.
15gb can not be done no such thing as a 3gb stick.
the most interesting thing i found was more ram is better then less ram in all cases ,
but equal combos 2gb 2gb 2gb 2gb or 4gb 4gb blk blk give different results
Now I have the 3.06ghz cpu so if you have a quad core my guess is you are better off with 2gb 2gb 2gb 2gb while my dual core was better off with 4gb 4gb blk blk. In both cases my machine worked with the above ram combos. just was a little bit quicker with 4gb 4gb. _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

Thanks Phil..I wasn't sure if mis matched was okay.Good to know it is..and yes I'll be getting a i7 since I eventually want to go 16gb it makes more sense to me to to 4gb up to 12 gb then replace that with a 4gb.
The 4gb stick is a little n more than 2-2gb so...
okay sorry for the multiple noob questions.
I'm using this as a recording rig heavy on sample instruments so I need an external HD for them and ..a drive to record to.Since I'm on a budget (after buying the iMac!!).
here's my strategy
1.ext HD for samples and recording drive ( I have a BU drive for now)
2.stock int HD will be the drive boot and apps(I'm only going to load recording programs so it will have MILES of space!!!)
3.when I can afford it
4.swap the optical drive for a SSD and use that as the boot/app drive
5.Internal HD recording drive
6.the ext HD will still be sample and BU #2
okay my question
what solid "inexpensive"($100-$150) minimum 1tb(prefer 2tb) ext firewire drive??
thanks for all you help Phil
