I think only you can decided that one. Do you need the 3G ? or will you be primarily connecting by Wifi
I'm actually in a similar situation to you but have decided on a 32GB Wfi+3G model. I know I don't need a 64Gb model. I have a 16GB Touch which works well I'm selective what I copy onto it but have managed ok with 16GB. I just felt with the iPad having 32Gb would serve me better long term. so the decision for me was 32GB wifi or 32GB wifi+3G, I decided it was better to have the 3G and not use it, than it was to not have it and then find I needed it. I also see it as being slightly more saleable down the line should I decide to sale it in a year or so.
Just to add slightly more confusion to your decision you could also add a third option. Where you buy the wifi only model but later add a 3G data plan via a MIFI unit. Its an extra unit to carry around but would also give you the extra convenience of a 3G enabled local wifi network in your pocket. I'm also looking at this as it would allow my iPad, iPod Touch and Macbook Pro remote internet access as well, unlike the 3G iPad which would only get itself onto the net. _________________ Phil

I notice your quoting prices in € Hicks999 where about are you ?
In the UK we can get a pay as you go Mifi unit for £49.99 via the three mobile netowrk. The unit they supply is the Huawei E5830 Mifi which is locked to their network but it can be unlocked to accept any sim card data plan. Three in the UK also bundle the Huawei E5830 with a £20 3GB limited sim card which you use over a three month period after that its £15 for 3GB on a one month renewal, which is exactly the same as the iPad plans but you have the freedom of using the mifi with any device including a wifi only iPad.
A better Mifi unit is the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2352 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot which is priced at around £200 and is unlocked already.
If you go for the wifi only model you at least have the option of later going Mifi if your need more than wifi only, so its not a lost cause if you choose not to get a 3G iPad and later need it. _________________ Phil

Here's a link to the Novatel one I mentioned. French Expansys link
Expansys are the cheapest place in the UK, you may find it cheaper in France.
This is an expensive unit, the cheaper one I mentioned was on Three's network in the UK, this one is a locked to Three. but it only costs about 15€ to get it unlocked, I know a guy in Switzerland who is using one of them. He bought it in the UK and unlocked it. Here's a link to his blog about using one and unlocking it. Its a two part write up so look for the link at the top of the page for part 2 _________________ Phil

If you do not need the 3G, go with the 32GB wifi. I got that one, my wife got the 64GB wifi. Of course I didn't want to wait for the 3g and since it's still using AT&T, that was a definite deal breaker. I'll stick with my Droid for 3G with Verizon and WIFi on my iPad. I am loving this thing. _________________ 2.5 GHZ i5 Mac Minu 8Gb Ram

Honestly, I can't imagine myself using more space than my apps. Maybe a few gigs if I were to go on vacation. You can actually stream movies from your computer's hard drive to your iPhone and iPad over 3G. Check out the app AirVideo. I'm getting the 16GB 3G version. So if I go on vacation, I will just stream everything.
Just my 2 cents. |

isnt there a 3G version unlocked? why are they always locked to an operator and force you to do contract? why not do a ipad for any operator so that you can put in any SIM card wether you are in europe or US... like a cellphone - you pay extra but its unlocked _________________ apple ipod touch 4th gen. 8Gb |

all the iPads are unlocked Soundzen. You can add any sim card. I originally bought mine with an O2 sim £15 for 3GB/month but it's turned out to be useless when I'm at work, so I've cancelled it and will now be trying a 3 sim which is £15 for 10GB/month. _________________ Phil

I'm not sure what your data plans are like over there, but in the UK they are limited, typically to 1GB or 3GB of data per month, so streaming would quickly eat up your monthly allowance. _________________ Phil

Ipad _Huge library of new and existing applications.
There are already thousands of applications written specifically for the iPad. The iPad also does a
decent job of playing 95% of existing iTouch/iPhone applications. With over 150,000 programs available,
there are applications already available for just about anything you can think of many of which are free.
My application list includes, streaming internet radio, video players, card games, and news/weather
sites. I've also downloaded the iBooks application which is an excellent book reading program. Many
free books are available as well as a good selection of current titles.
Another great built-in app is "Maps". "Maps" is incredible, not only in its ease-of-use but in its ability
to show your current location. True, the WiFi only iPad has no GPS but via WiFi signals the iPad can
often compute your approximate location. _________________ ipad books
