Posted by: Glenn
Western Digital today announced the release of their WD Scorpio Blue 750GB 2.5-inch hard drive. According to the company, this drive is the industry's highest capacity 2.5-inch hard drive to date in the standard-height (9.5mm) notebook form factor. It also boasts a two-platter design for greater areal density and utilizes Western Digital's Advanced Format technology to increase efficiency. The WD Scorpio Blue 750GB hard drive is available now for a suggested retail price of $149.

Very good price for such a large drive. I'm interested in your benchmarks, given it is a 5400RPM drive. We'll see if WD's advanced format technology is any good. I understand that it writes more data in less space. I wonder if this will speed things up or slow things down.
I'm sure you'll let us know if it is quiet, right Phil. |

I find this funny!!!!
Good price tag for a small drive..
considering you can purchase a 2TB 2.5 inch drive from seagate for only 149.99 so why would you spend 149.99 for only 750 gig's
Not really that impressed. |

| Macman . . . as I'm sure others will be quick to state, this is for a 2.5 inch "notebook" drive, the same as used in a mini. There is no such thing as a 2 TB notebook drive . . . you are confusing it with a 3.5 inch desktop drive. As such, this is now the largest drive available for a laptop or mini and IS a good price. |

I have yet to hear a noisy Scorpio Blue from WD. I think they are the quietest drives out there right now. _________________ 14" 1.25GHz G4 iBook (died)

macmanmacman some people just want the mini with no add ons. this is the biggest you can do without cutting up the insides. this is a lot of drive for an internal laptop. this will also fit in a macbook and a macbook pro 13 inch model. _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

the Western digital 2.5 inch slim 750gb hdds came a day early. I mounted one in the mini oem hdd slot and it is a dead fit. I added 4g ram I will post results later today. so far I can say it is quiet.
the tests will be on a new 2.26ghz with 4gb ram 10.6.2 and 10.6.3. I will run a set of tests with the same mini and the stock 160gb hdd. _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

Very cool. I was hoping it would fit. So 9.5mm is the OEM size (height)? |

yeah 9.5 it could fit a 11mm even 11.8mm but no one makes it.
THE test scores are very good for a 2.26ghz with 4gb ram 143 is the highest I have seen for a 5400 rpm drive. Tomorrow I will test a 640gb toshiba a 500gb samsung a 320 fujitsu and a 320 hitachi all are 5400rpm.
I have a bad seagate 500 gb 7200 rpm drive that is very loud but still runs fast. I have been waiting for it to die some more to send it in for a rma. the price went up to 119 from 109 I am glad I purchased 2 of them. _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

I think you'd find if you searched it isn't even a 2.5" inside but a 3.5".
