I always preferred to read real books over e-books but I wouldn't dream of writing in a real book or highlighting text in them. I always look after my books. So I think having the facility to annotate and highlight passages of text in a ebook would be a huge bonus to me.
I've been thinking for a long time now about getting a Kindle but due to Amazon's delay in selling to the UK, I started to look at alternatives and also into the possibility of would I actually like reading from a screen rather than a real book. Since then I have read quite a few e-books mainly using Stanza on the iPod Touch. The screen is a little small but on the whole I've found it an enjoyable experience and its even better that I can carry several books at once and quickly switch between them. I would have no qualms about purchasing an ebook reader now as I'm starting to actually like reading e-books now. Sadly for Amazon they took too long to sell into the UK and that stop me buying on impulse. Now I've had time to think about things and way up the alternatives I know I would rather spend my money elsewhere and I really can't wait to get an iPad now. _________________ Phil

The first person to achieve this won't ever need to worry about paying the utility bills again...

You can already add sticky notes to PDF files. Heck, you can even type your own notes straight onto PDFs -- I've done it before at work on the CAD drawings that are sent to me as Acrobat files. I don't think that it would be hard to add this functionality to e-books on the iPad. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

Yeah, that was drummed into me as a kid: "Never deface a book..." _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

I just read that Apple left off some of the default iPhone apps like Weather and Stocks, because they thought they didn't look right on the bigger iPad, which makes sense.
so why do they think the rest of the current iPhone desktop looks alright on the iPad? I think it deserved a new desktop, or some change to the icon structure, something new. |

| I wouldn't mind getting one for just surfing the web outside on the deck in the sun or another room. I don't have a laptop. I'm worried the wifi will be like my nintendo wii, and be slower than dial up. |

The apps they do have look rather nice though. Maybe it will just take them a little time to get things right. I'm sure there will be some last minute surprises when it comes to software. Unfortunately, it's the hardware specs that look to be set in stone. I still cannot understand for the life of me why this thing is shipping out without a camera. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| I don't know wether to go with a macbook or an ipad. On one hand I like the idea of the app store, and games which i would hardly play but it would be nice. Then the macbook you can do so much. I just want something portable. |

I decided to hold off for a while. Reasoning was I want to hear some real life stories about battery life. I love my iPhone but when I can't even go a full day without recharging it makes me leery about an iPad, I know they are different beasts just want some real life use.
Plus I want to hear from those that use iWork to see how it does typing and sharing files in an MS ".doc" office situation. _________________ iMac 24" 2.4 GHz 4GB | Logitech S530 | Z-2300 speakers | NewerTech Guardian MAXimus RAID

I would like to hear more real world reports on battery life and signal strength with the aluminum back. Then maybe get my hands on one before ordering. I just don't feel inclined to buy one sight unseen. |

I pre-ordered the 64GB 3G model. I was thinking of going with the WiFi model, and using my Sprint MiFi when on the go, but that would've meant not only two things to carry around, but also two batteries to worry about (and the WiFi battery only last about 3 or so hours).
...and the $100 to duplicate my storage from 32GB to 64GB also seemed reasonable. I'm pretty confident the iPad will become my eReader, my on the go computer and media center, and my gaming system - and a long long time ago when I had a 32GB Sony Vaio UX UMPC, it was super hard living with just 32GB.
I suppose there's still time to cancel or change my order, and I'm really interested in learning what the iPad WiFi buyers will have to say. |

My previous post about the interface, I meant that the iphone looking icons ported to the iPad look kinda lame, just wish the larger screen coulda had a different icon/desktop look.
Resolution- I know the res is 1024x768, this is landscaped. why does interfacelift.com show iPad resolution as 1024x1024? when you view their wallpapers tho, they look correct as portrait aspect for the iPad, why isn't it 768x1064? someone educate me on resolution.
I want an iPad and would go for the 3G option. My iPhone is jailbroke and unlocked to Tmobile w/o a data plan (or contract) so the cheaper non-contract ATT plan for the iPad looks attractive.
ps- can you believe the iPad sales and prices on ebay already?? must be non-US buyers. I'm thinkin many people bought 2 and sold one to lower their cost. they are going for $100-200 over US cost. |
