|

Hi guys,
I'm thinking of getting a webcam and want to know what will definitely work with the Mini, so I used 123MM's search option to look for "webcam" in the Accessories forum. Turns out that there are 3 pages of results.
Of course, many of those posts are also asking what will work with the Mini, but many responses speculate what should work, what might work, what people have heard will work and what the manufacturers say will work.
So here's my suggestion: Could the admins please set up a sticky in the Accessories forum with the title "Webcams that are KNOWN to work with the Mac Mini"? If the opening post could ask people only to add recommendations that they themselves have bought and actually plugged into a Mac, then we might create a thread of verified experience rather than well-intentioned speculation.

Bump!
It's a worthy question, as I'd be interested to know as well. Been dying to make a video. |

Hi,
good idea I've 3 webcams I've tried, none appear to work, I will take a second look at them. If they don't work I'll post that, a negative result can be as useful as a positive one. |

JB - I'll work on something today for the accessory forum. That being said, all you really need is a UVC compatible webcam. _________________ Brian

Good list, but I don't know how up-to-date it is.
I have a MSI Starcam 370i and found the Sonic driver for the chip all by myself! |

Good point. A definite "no" is worth knowing.

I've looked at that list SC, and I see a lot of instances of "Should work". I'm not going to hand over money on the basis of speculation. I want to hear from people who've actually plugged the darn thing into their Mac! _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

That's why you get one that "Works."
I use a fancy Logitech peecee webcam, but I don't get any fancy features, and IIRC even using the fancy Logitech Mac webcam, you don't get any fancy features. They both just use the UVC drivers.

It seems to have worked okay in the HTPC forum, but we'll see what happens.
Okay, back to the lab now. I need to finish something before April 3rd. _________________ Brian
