Awake from sleep via internet

I'm hosting a personal family site(under dev) on my Mac Mini. It goes into sleep mode when not in use and I can't figure out how to awaken it when accessed via the web URL.

It's behind a firewall and I've opened port 80 for access. This all works, when it's awake.

How can I awaken it from a simple URL access? Kinda like wake on LAN.

I'm not a server expert, but why would you want to put your mini into sleep mode? Wouldn't this cause some major lag when people try to access your site?

It's only a family site. I don't expect it to receive much traffic....just grandma and grandpa. The Mac Mini comes out of sleep mode very quickly. I suspect it would come out of sleep mode before a browser could time-out.

Why would you set it to sleep? The Mini does not take much power. Your putting alot of stress on your harddrive if its turning off and on several times an hour.

I don't think you're going to have any luck setting this up. Just make sure you set the display to sleep after X amount of time and have "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" checked in Energy Saver, if you don't already. This should help save your Mac mini and display from some wear and tear. You should also go into Energy Saver options and check restart system after power failure. What are your biggest concerns, security or wear on the Mac mini? By the way, nice looking site!

I have the options checked as you detailed. I was just hoping that during the evening when no one is really going to be accessing the site, I could simply drop the Mini into sleep mode to save some wear and tear and electricity.....although the later is probably just pennies.

The site is built on Joomla (www.joomla.org) with a template from Jamboworks. I haven't even done anything other than remove a few graphics in the header. It will all come together soon and hopefully look more refined.
