Posted by: Glenn
Boxee announced the release of a new version of the Boxee Beta today. According to the company, this update resolves more than 500 issues with the first version of the Boxee Beta released to the public in January. The update also focuses on improving overall stability and the handling of SMB shares. The new Boxee Beta, version 0.9.20.10708, is available for download here. It weighs in at 54MB and requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

| I like the newer beta, but it's been so buggy. I really hope this update helps! |

You don't need to do that. |

Great news! It's been rough going since the first release. Maybe I can leave Plex behind for good now. I don't see anything exciting happening with it anymore. I would rather even run XMBC, which has totally gotten their shit together over the last six months. Maybe it's the true long term play here. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

| It seems to be skipping over some of my album art. Other than that, I haven't had any major trouble. It definitely feels more responsive to me. |

I have been using this on and off for a month now. I like it. Integrates well with Netflix and has a nice GUI. I don't know if I like where the Boxee team is heading with more "paid" programming in the future. Time will tell. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

I love the new user interface!
Heck, I bought another refurbished Mac mini just to run Boxee for HTPC. The old version may have been lame, but this new beta that came out last month rules. I think it looks and runs way better than Plex. That being said, I have a feeling that the people working on Plex have something big up their sleeves. It seems like they haven't released an update in a while. _________________ 2009 Mac mini with 500GB/4GB

I'm testing this on a brand new mini server and all works pretty well, except for the issue with album cover art. I'm getting blank boxes on albums that iTunes shows just fine.
Otherwise, nice and responsive. |

| I'm having the same issues with album art. They are good in iTunes, but missing in Boxee. I really have nothing bad to say beyond that one. It's a sweet media center application. |

Is this problem with album art a known issue? I even tried changing some of mine, but it didn't make difference. Once they go missing, they seem to stay missing. |

I like the new Boxee. What's the status on it coming over to the Apple TV? _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I was able to install it on Mac Mini server, and install went well; however, it can't seem to open. It appears like it'll open when clicked, but a few seconds later it crashes.
Anyone else have a similar issue? |
