Ok so i purchased a Emac from a gentleman online.
Total cost $50.00
original system spec's where
G4 800 mhz
256 meg's ram
40 gig hard drive
running 10.2.8
I decided to see how far i could push this machine and so my project began.
I went to my local computer store and purchased a 52x cd+r/dvd+r burner wanted the best speed and at the price of $10.00 i couldn't pass it up.
I went to my local Re Pc and purchased a additional 256 megs of ram temporary memory untill my 1 gig stick arrives. a steal at $12.00
I have done so many computer repairs i had a 250 gig western digital hard drive hanging around so i installed it next.
I then purchased a 150 gig external for $12.00 at my local Re Pc
put the whole works together and now i have this as my system specs.
G4 800 Mhz
512 Meg's of ram
250 gig hard drive
52 x cd/dvd burner
Running mac os x leopard 10.5.7
Not bad!!! for $84.00 total and quite stable too. |

Awww man!! I had an old eMac and would've loved to do some pimping on it
But seriously, well done dude, some nice upgrades.
Don't you have to "Crack" Leopard so it will install on less than a 866MHz G4? :S Confused!!

I think your asking about this...
leopardAssist
Information on how to do this manually is here.

Nice one Aqua, interesting link.
So really, it's quite easy, should've had more of a play with my old eMac, mind I didn't know as much about computers back then.
Just interesting how Leopard will run happily on older Macs, where as Vista needs a hell of a spec to just run smoothly.
Someone said to me 2GB/s of RAM on Leopard/Snow is the same as 4GB/s on Vista, probably true

Great Upgrade Job Macman! I have an eMac 700 MHz. Traded someone on CraigsList a $35. Walmart Gift Card! I have a Gig of Ram in it, Airport Card that I bought for $15. and it has a DVD-RW. I have Tiger on it. I tried fooling the "Leopard Installer Firmware Hack" but it would not Install. Would go half way through & come up with error Message. Forgot what the Message said. Tried it 2X, same thing both times. It did work on my iBook though. Strange! _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

The Emac 700 Mhz is not known to work with the leopard installer hack.
I found this out when i tried it on a g4 cube 700 mhz.
it has to due with the firmware!!
But after this i started on a g4 server project and i am now able to stream my itunes library to my xbox 360 from a single macintosh.
Kinda sucks that connect 360 won't stream all content. |

Yea I guess the 700 MHz. is the reason then. That explains why it loaded seamlessly on my iBook 800 MHz. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

Macmanmacman,
I Just upgraded my eMac 700MHz.to Leopard. It seems there is a download called "Leopard Assist" which actually fools the Installer into thinking it's a 900 MHz. Mac. After installing I checked in "About This Mac" & it Said 900MHz. I upgraded to Leopard without one glitch. You can download Leopard Assist from macupdate.com

Aquafire, had I read your earlier Post, I could have done the Upgrade sooner. I just read it, after I had found it on my own. Leopard Assist works better than the Manual Method. I tried it the Manual way & got errors saying I could not install Leopard on this Machine. Leopard Assist worked perfect. Thanks. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

Hey Dino, I just picked up a real clean 1GHz "ATI" eMac with 512mb ram and a 40GB hard drive. I installed 10.4.11 on it and it works great. I'm going to find another 512 ram chip for a total of 1gb and I already have 160GB hard drive sitting around that I will install. I just love the way the white plastic looks on this machine. Oh, BTW, I paid $50.00 for it. I would love to find a Airport card for it as well. _________________ Mac Mini 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM 500GB HD

Congrats on the eMac. I love those. A cool looking machine. I had like 256MB Ram & no Airport at first. I kept on checking Craigslist & got the ram up to a gig & then bought an Airport Card for $20. So I paid about $50. also. There was another eMac on Craigslist that I was tempted to buy, but I have no room. Too many computers. Enjoy!. It's a great machine. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

Caulktel, that model was my very first Mac! Ah, the memories...
