|
|
I've had VMFusion installed for almost a year now. Honestly I use XP from Bootcamp because I think VMFusion/XP is slow to launch and slow to use, it's a solution when I don't want to reboot but I think it is awful.
Now when I'm in VMFusion and I launch XP, it keeps on asking me to validate my copy of Windows as "the hardware has significantly changed since the install". I have done nothing with the hardware and I'm guessing some kind of Windows Update has triggered the message.
Anyone else have this problem? I guess I could call MS to clear this up but what a pain. _________________ early 09 mini, 4gb, 320GB/7200-WDBlack |

Validation was part of an update to XP, although I think its included from the start if you are installing from an SP2 or SP3 install disk.
I think the message itself is different if XP isn't verified as genuine after the update is installed.
I don't run bootcamp, just Fusion + XP. It might be that the change from bootcamp to VM would trigger the message. Under bootcamp XP will be running on your native mac mini hardware, in the VM it will be running on top of the virtualized hardware exposed by Fusion. This is likely to be significantly different. |

I launched XP in Bootcamp again and now I have the same validation message as in Fusion. Since I have a legit license for XP I just went on to validate it again and it seems to have worked. I guess from the last round of software updates there must have been something that re-checked the license. I just didn't want to be locked out of bootcamp/xp if I had validated under fusion/xp but it seems it is fine now. _________________ early 09 mini, 4gb, 320GB/7200-WDBlack |

If you are running XP in Bootcamp and in VM Fusion, MS thinks you need two licenses. I pulled my VM files off my iMac and put them on my mini and I got the same validation window, but updating was easy. _________________ ____________
