Our iMac just died ... 17" screen, G5(?) bought in 2005. Got 4.5 years otuof it. I'll talk to Apple about repair options. I had bought AppleCare plan but that expired over a year ago .. bummer!
This is for my wife and I .... web surfing, documents, streaming iTunes ... no heavy duty performance demands.
Anyway, I can go 3 ways here ...
1. get it repaired ... may be the cheapest but will take awhile .. not sure.
2. replace with new iMac - chance to upgrade!! 27" screen???? 
wife may not approve thouugh.
3. replace with new Mini and separate display - may be more flexible in system configuration. I can get a modest sized display today and up grade to larger down the road, if I wish.
Which would folks pick? Any performance reasons why I should get a iMAC over a Mini?

Get a mini, nice and cheap 24" display (IF you need it, otherwise you'll be fine with a 22" one).
OR!
Buy a decent used iMac, something like 21.5" from eBay. |

| With all the recent issues with the imac i would purchase a mac mini and get applecare as well it will be cheaper in the long run.. |
