Might be a solution for people with older mini's, but it's not an option for 2009 mini's.
They don't have a mini-PCIe slot.  |

Most SSD's (except for really expensive ones) struggle to saturate SATA2.
You'll see quite a few coming out this year that will, but they'll be fairly pricey, and there'll still be heaps of cheaper alternatives that don't.
Also that card is only PCIe 2.0 1x, meaning it's total bandwidth is only 500MB/s or 4Gbps (real world would be less).
So they're ripping people off by claiming they can offer true SATA 6G.
The card suggested by frsp_1 is fine for a Mini w/a true mPCIe slot.

This is a very interesting discussion. I am interested in replacing the wifi board in the 2009 mini. Unfortunitly this seems impossible now that they did away with the mini PCI-e slot and replaced it with a perpriority connector. I also understand that if you could find the pinout for this connector you would still loose blutooth because they now combine blutooth and wifi on the same board.
My reasons for wanting to do this is I would of liked to install a broadcom HD decoder card in my early 2009 mini.

| Is the thought to install this in place of the Airport card on an older Mac Mini (2007 version, for example). Has anybody done this? Certainly gets more SATA ports than just the internal harddrive. |

You are correct but the adapter is USB/pcie and not a true PCIE adapter. Mini PCIE slots come in 2 flavors.
1. Interfaces into the USB bus
2. Interfaces into the PCIE bus.
This adapter is ment to interface into a USB bus.

So, in other words, This is a PCIe controller that will enable
you to attach two SATA Discs that will run at USB speeds or
less.
If I have that right........whats the point?
It would seem that using a conventional USB or FireWire
HD enclosure setup, just makes more sense.
Less "VooDoo" involved.

My usage would be for a broadcom decoder card. This I already know is not possible with a 09' mini. It is possible with a pre nvidia mini. What the OP wants to do is run an sata drive from the mini PCIe which is do-able but as this is only a USB type adapter they will only get USB speed. SO I must say whats the point just install an external USB drive and be done with it.
