I get over 1 year battery life on my MicroSoft 6000 USB mouse with daily use. I never turn it off in between uses. I know this for sure, because I looked at the purchase receipt the first time I changed the batteries.

I agree. I have the new wireless keyboard with the Microsoft Bluetrack mobile mouse 4000 and have had no problems with the combination or with battery life on either. They work great together on the Mac Mini.

Is the mouse compatible with OS X's mouse 'stuff' like Expose? I'm assuming it is...

The Mac Mini sees it as a regular mouse, no problems. It's compatible out of the box with both the Mac side and the Virtual PC side. I think the advantage is that the wireless keyboard is bluetooth, while the Microsoft mouse is a wireless USB dongle. Using separate technologies eliminates the reported problems of the magic mouse keeping the wireless keyboard from sleeping as both are bluetooth connections.

I applied this update yesterday and now the keyboard won't stay connected for more than a minute or so. It sometimes disconnects while I'm typing. I wish I had ignored the update because everything was working just fine.

That sucks. Have you tried removing it from your Mac and pairing up again?
Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried that to no avail. It disconnects about 30 seconds after I stop typing. Battery level is at 52%. Perhaps I'll try new batteries. If that doesn't work, I think I'm going to have to go back to my wired keyboard.

Sorry to quote myself but fresh batteries seems to have solved my problem. Cheers.
