Yeah, can you imagine the confusion when a woman asks another "Can I borrow your iPad? I left mine at home!"
Someone at Apple is pretty clueless not to have seen this marketing mis-step ahead of time. _________________ Retired: Altair 8800, PET, TI 99/4A, Apple II

| I remember a dude laughing at me because I told him I had a Palm Pilot. I probably wouldn't tell people I had an "iPad". If they asked me what it was, I'd likely just say it's an Apple "touchscreen" or "tablet. |

| I saw somewhere - 2 speakers, on opposite sides, I think top and bottom, on the shorter ends. |

I'm definitely going to buy the $829 version, I need the maximum amount of space. I can't wait to have my very own max ipad!
but in all seriousness, I'm not sure how I feel about the iPad yet. To me, its uses seem limited with the lack of usb and camera. Right now I dont think i need a giant iPhone. But I could be proved wrong. I guess i'll just wait until I try it out myself before I make any serious judgements. _________________ 2010 Macbook Pro 2.53 Core i5, Anti-glare screen, 500 gb 7200 rpm HD, 4gb RAM

Think of it for what it can do, not what it can't. Looks like an ultra cool device to me...an iPod touch with a large screen and more features. The demo video on engadget makes it look very responsive and a lot of fun to use.
If you already have a MacBook, like me, it'll be hard to justify. Unlike Steve Jobs, I don't see it doing things a lot better than a MacBook. But the wow factor is there for sure. |

Just as well it didn't come with a stylus. Could you imagine...
Pen + iPad = PeniPad...
Think about it...

I would have loved for them to have called it the iMaX.
The tablet designed to Maximize your potential.
Oh well....

Hey, Apple dug this hole themselves by being totally clueless to the potential advertising pitfalls of a name so closely associated with a woman's private business! They should have gone with iTablet. _________________ Retired: Altair 8800, PET, TI 99/4A, Apple II

It wouldn't have occurred to me if you and others hadn't brought it up—childish the way I see it. There are note pads, chair pads, cotton pads, foot pads, helicopter pads, lily pads, etc.
John Gruber has a good take on the iPad. "Fast, fast, fast." http://daringfireball.net |

Lighten up a bit. Google "iPad horrible name" and you'll find there are many people that feel the same way. The jokes will dwindle in a few days. If people want to have a bit of fun in the meantime, they should be allowed to.
Here's an article written by a female writer for the New York Times that feels the same way.

When I mentioned the name to my girlfriend today she laughed. |
