|
|
I'm wondering if the Mac Mini's DVI Video port will hook up to my Sony TV's DVI Video Input? Is the Mac Mini a special mini-DVI port, and thus I would need a cable that goes from mini-DVI to regular DVI?
I have a Sony KF50XBR800 |

The Mac Mini has a DVI-I port, any ordinary DVI video cable should connect to it. I fully expect a Mac Mini should be able to use your TV as a display. DVI is a great way to go, as it offers greater clarity. _________________ http://skeptichosting.com/

Thanks.
I'm still wondering in the Mac's port is a mini version, thus I will need a cable to go from mini-dvi to normal dvi. _________________ 1.42 Mac Mini | 1 GB RAM | 100 GB Drive | Superdrive | Bluetooth + Airport Extreme | 56k V.92 Modem | Mac OS X Tiger | Wireles Keyboard & Mouse | Apple 20" Cinema Flat Panel Display | Sony KF50XBR800 Display |

No, it is a typical, normal, everyday DVI connector and any DVI cable should fit it just fine. _________________ http://skeptichosting.com/

OK, I just realized the DVI port is NOT a mini port on the Mac. So, now I just have to wait until my Mac ships, which just got delayed again! _________________ 1.42 Mac Mini | 1 GB RAM | 100 GB Drive | Superdrive | Bluetooth + Airport Extreme | 56k V.92 Modem | Mac OS X Tiger | Wireles Keyboard & Mouse | Apple 20" Cinema Flat Panel Display | Sony KF50XBR800 Display |

Here is the back of the TV
TV
And the back of the Mini
Mac Mini
It seems the far right (4) analog pins are different on my TV. Are these used on the Apple DVI connector? _________________ 1.42 Mac Mini | 1 GB RAM | 100 GB Drive | Superdrive | Bluetooth + Airport Extreme | 56k V.92 Modem | Mac OS X Tiger | Wireles Keyboard & Mouse | Apple 20" Cinema Flat Panel Display | Sony KF50XBR800 Display |

Your pictures aren't working (unless you sign up for those forums). You should try uploading them to ImageShack or something. I would like to see what's going on! _________________ 2.4GHz MacBook Pro/4GB/320GB HD

The TV has a DVI-D port, it will accept a digital signal only on that port.
The Mac Mini has a DVI-I port, it will output a digital signal on the pins that also appear on the TV, and it will output a VGS signal on the 4 additional pins.
You can connect this TV to your Mac Mini using a DVI-D cable and it should work. The cable must not have the 4 additional pins simply because it will not fit into your TV if it does. _________________ http://skeptichosting.com/

Got it - thanks for taking time to help me. I'm new to both DVI and Mac's. My mini has shipped, and should be here on Monday - can't wait to get switching _________________ 1.42 Mac Mini | 1 GB RAM | 100 GB Drive | Superdrive | Bluetooth + Airport Extreme | 56k V.92 Modem | Mac OS X Tiger | Wireles Keyboard & Mouse | Apple 20" Cinema Flat Panel Display | Sony KF50XBR800 Display |

Out of curiosity, what is this VGS signal of which you speak, and what does it do?

That was a typo. It should have said VGA. _________________ http://skeptichosting.com/

Thanks. I really wasn't being sarcastic--I thought it was some new video standard or switching technology or something. There are far too many acronyms to keep track of as is...please don't inadvertently introduce another one.
