|
|
As I consider myself an Amateur Mac Collector, it looks like I'm going to sell the Imac G3 I bought with OS9 on it & 128MB of Ram for $30. I did all the Firmware Upgrade & upgraded it to Tiger & wiped OS9 completely from it. I brought it up to One GB of Ram and configured it to work with a Belkin USB Adapter using a Generic Railink Driver. I'm getting $125. for it. It has original KB & Mouse. I need to make some room for other stuff, so I'm doing Spring Cleaning in Winter. I'll miss it but it was a fun experience Upgrading & using it. It actually runs beautiful & fast with Tiger & the One GB of Ram. I have a Buyer. He's coming on Tuesday. Believe it or not, I'll miss it! I love all the old Macs. That being the oldest I ever owned. I know some of you go a lot further back than I & have incredible Collections. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

That's cool. Hey if it makes you happy then great.
My first Mac was a Performa 5200. I only owned it for a month and then sold it to a police officer for $1 more than I paid for it. I don't really miss it. I didn't value it at the time.
I took a tip from a TV show years ago. Take a photo of sentimental stuff and then get rid of it, if you are not using it. This had made things much easier for me. I value the free space and I can actually make better use of the things I do use. Another tip is to put a sticker with a date on things that you don't use regularly. A couple years later when you look at the sticker and you still haven't used it. You can justify parting with it.
I know Macs are some of the hardest items to part with. It amazing how we actually bond to these things. I have never felt that way with a PC. I did feel that way with my Commodore 64, but nothing since then.
I'm sad that I sold my G4 mini to a friend. Knowing that it is getting used daily and has made another person convert to Apple has me feeling better.
Hey Dino, why not post a pic for us. Share some of that love. |

How about my Toy Boats on the Left ? That iMac & my eMac are setup in my Florida Room. All surfing Wirelessly from my Time Capsule. What you said before is true. Sounds Strange but you actually have a relationship with your Macs. Like a Good Friend. I never felt that way about ANY of my PC's. I get attached to these guys very easily. I hope that doesn't make me a Fanboy. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

This has been part of Apple campaign from day 1.
"Hello, I am Macintosh. Never trust a computer you cannot lift... I'm glad to be out of that bag" - talking Macintosh Computer.
Notice the use of the word "trust". Purely emotional, purely about building a relationship. The original Macs were also a made to look like a face. Apple want's you to build a relationship with your computer. While PC's have been focused on logic. Apple has went in the opposite direction. Apple lost focus of this when Steve Jobs was gone. Your bondi blue iMac is representative of the return of Steve Jobs and the return of the emotion. It truly was the turn around point for Apple.
I worked in retail computer sales at that time, so I go to see first hand the reaction to the new iMacs. It was pretty neat to see. Kids absolutely loved them, especially girls and women. |

A personable & charismatic Computer for sure. I agree & they sucked me in 10 fold, 3 years ago. Although I had an issue with the new iMac, I know will make good & I'll get the perfect iMac I imagined. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

That & the Cube are the 2 Models that I would like to add to my Newer Mac collection. I know most of you have collections that go back to the beginning. But I don't see myself going that far back, as I have mine set up & ready to use. I power a different one up at different times just not to neglect one or the other. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

The only bad thing about Dino's vintage Mac threads is that within 5 minutes of reading them, I find myself trawling eBay.... _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

I'm glad I could inspire you guys to get your old Macs back. Like I said this is 3 years new to me. So they are new Macs in my eyes. They all run great. I got rid of my Pentium 2 & 3 Dells. As much as I keep everything, it was time to clear some PC's out. I did not even shed a tear. But these beauties are harder to part with. I've become attached. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD
