My iPod Shuffle arrived last night and if you are considering on these I would highly recommend it.
Having used the lager sibling for some time now it is odd to not have a display but I am enjoying the "mystery" of the next track. Its obviously all my music so its as if there is a radio station out there that only plays music I enjoy.
I purchased the 1GB model and using the auto fill feature was able to load 211 tracks (out of the advertised 240). I actually expected less considering a lot of the music I listen to goes well beyond the 4 minute mark used for rating capacity.
The size is even smaller than I expected, you cannot feel it in your pocket. The controls are very logical although I suppose I need to learn the LED functionality a bit better to know what it is trying to say to me. It does come with a wallet sized card to explain the functions.
Sound quality is good although I can hear a small start up noise when first starting up. I am using the upgraded apple in ear headphones but am thinking of an upgrade for those soon.
The plastic used is subject to fingerprints and you need to be careful when selecting continuous or shuffle modes with the switch on the back, I tend to pull it all the way to shuffle by default but will listen to it in shuffle mode 95% of the time anyway.
If you are considering this as an add on to your existing iPod its a great travel companion for the gym or short flights. If this will be your first iPod I think you will love it but may want to step up to the next generation mini in the future to get the full experience. _________________ "...if you get confused listen to the music play..."

When did you order yours? I want to get one for working out, biking and other activities. Does is feel fragile? When the Shuffle first came out and they said there was no screen, I was worried but it has grown on me since.
Congratulations on your new Shuffle and thanks for the review. |

| I happen to think the shuffle is a good deal. I mean most thumb drives are between 50-60 bucks and don't play music. That lanyard is going to become a hot fashion statement with kids. The only thing its missing is some sort of display, but overall it looks like a winner |

Ordered iLife '05, iWork and the Shuffle on the 12th (late) - iLife and iWork arrived on the 21st, the Shuffle on the 28th. Not too bad.
I can see it being a fashion statement like the white headphones themselves but it would be really easy to get one stolen wearing it around your neck. _________________ "...if you get confused listen to the music play..."

| Whatcha think of iWork? I really don't use Keynote but Pages looks cool. If Apple had included some type of spreedsheet I'd be more interested in buying it. |

You were smart to get the 1gb shuffle. I bought the 512mb and have a little buyers regret that I did not buy the lager capacity. |

I ordered my iPod shuffle about 3 weeks ago. I ordered my Mac mini a couple days after that. Well, I got my mini today, but the shuffle is still a no show.
I got the 1 gig version. |

I finally broke down and ordered a Shuffle. I needed a new thumb drive to transfer files from work and can use it at the gym. So my 1Gb is on the way. I'll probably get it next year but on the way! _________________ 14" 1.25GHz G4 iBook (died)

I bought the 512MB Shuffle and now like you wish I would've opted for the 1GB version. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac-mini

I waited as long as I could to see what if any problems people had. Well I just picked up the 1GB version at my local Circuit City tonight. They had the 512 on display and you could listen to it(sorta, I was not about to stick those in my ears).
As the very proud owner of a full size 15GB, I love the weight of this little guy. The big boy will now go to my wife along with the Altec Lansing speakers/dock combo I picked up.
And the thing about the display is no big deal...I rarely looked at the old one unless I wanted a certain song. _________________ Is that a Mac Mini in your pocket or are you just happy to see me. |

Darn I ordered mine from The Apple Store and it won't be here until around the end of this month. I'm going to use mine for working out and stuff and like you I don't really care that it doesn't have a screen. Glad to hear it sounds good! _________________ 14" 1.25GHz G4 iBook (died)

Help me out here:
1GB - $150 - Shuffle
4GB - $200 - Mini
6GB - $250 - Mini
20GB - $300 - iPod
30GB - $350 - iPod Photo
60GB - $450 - iPod Photo
Where is the sweet spot for price/gig?
$150/gig - 1GB Shuffle
$50/gig - 4GB Mini
$41.67/gig - 6GB Mini
$15/gig - 20GB iPod
$11.67/gig - 30GB iPod Photo
$7.50/gig -60GB iPod Photo
Doller cost vs. cost/GB?
Storage size vs. physical size.
If I was buying a iPod i'd go for the 6GB mini version. Physical size, cost, storage.
Dont know where I'. going with this - help me understand why to spend $150 on 1GB? |
