Apple Holding Special Event on January 27th
Monday, January 18, 2010
Posted by: Kenan
Apple announced today they will be holding a special media event on Wednesday, January 27th. The event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10:00 AM PST. The invitations sent out for the event simply read, "Come see our latest creation" with an Apple logo superimposed on a background of colorful paint splotches.

| I seriously hope Steve introduces the tablet, because I am so sick of reading about it. Then I can just spend the rest of the day contemplating buying one. |

I'm just excited to see what Apple has up their sleeves. It's been a while since they've introduced a completely new product. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

I read a comment a while back from someone who had claimed to see the tablet. The comment was
“You will be very surprised how you interact with the new tablet.”
I expect speech recognition and proximity sensors so you can interact with the touch screen without actually touching it. A built in espresso machine would be nice as well. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

I can't even remember the last one. Was it the Apple TV, MacBook Air or something else?
I have a question for you guys. If Apple started taking pre-orders for this product and you could have it on the 27th or shortly thereafter, would you pre-order one now sight unseen? Let's separate the Kool-Aid drinkers from the practical people here.
By the way, I would not. |

Was John Anderton the author of this comment?
I'm thinking a couple more multi-touch gestures and an expanded Voice Control with more commands. The same thing you'll probably see in the next iPhone update.

Not unless I would win the lottery tonight. |

| I know everyone is thinking Apple tablet, but the paint colors in the invitation match up with the iPod nano line. What if Apple released an iPhone nano in the same colors? That would be an interesting product as well. |

Another thought. Maybe new a social networking tool/app/integration? Mobile Me Light (free version)? iPhone OS 4.0 to run the tablet and sync it to iTunes the same way the iPhone does. Any bets? _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

Our latest creation would imply a single device, but I'm predicting...
Apple iTablet (my guess on the name)
iLife 2010
Aperture 3
And a ton of content announcements to go along with the iTablet.
I'm also predicting a much healthier looking Steve Jobs, which may be the best news of all. |

Or it's an image painted on a touchscreen Perhaps we're moving back toward finger-painting. |

No way. In my book, they still have a lot of selling to do with a tablet. Nor would I buy anything from Apple without seeing it first. And to be honest, I'm not hot on buying first generation products.

A MobileMe Lite supported by ads would be fine with me.

An announcement like that could also come in the way of a music, movie and TV subscription service for all devices. It doesn't necessarily need to be locked into the tablet.
BTW: I don't think Apple will name it iTablet. I think they'll want people to think differently about this new device. Carrying the name tablet inside the name (if that makes any sense, it's been a long day) carries a certain stereotype. I mean, let's be honest here. Tablet-based devices haven't done all that well to this point. |

I just hope they also announce the updating of the MBP lineup. MacRumors says the average is 200 days, and was at 213 or something last I checked...
Selling the mini to my SO and getting a 13" MBP for myself/school... _________________ --Marcus

| I haven't been this excited about an Apple event in a long time. Let's hope they don't disappoint with some lame-o announcements. |
