I'm having problems with my mac mini running slowly (512 Mb ram), so I took a look in activity monitor and every little widget seems to use somewhere between 10 and 20 Mb. Is this a realistic assesment, or is some of the memory shared?
Will I gain some memory from switching to Konfabulator, or is it just as bad of a memory hog? |

Both in my experience used too much memory for what it did. I downloaded a third party tool to disable the dashboard and I quit using konfabulator.

Dashboard and Konfabulator have all been known to use way too much memory. Some widgets leak memory too as they're bugs and such, though I read about that happening back when Tiger first came out. I think all those widgets have been fixed as it was more of a Dashboard thing than a badly-coded widget thing.
This is another reason why I suggest no less than 1Gb for any computer nowadays. _________________ Computer Engineer

At first my widgets rapidly "gained weight" and only reverted to a more normal size when rebooted. Just quickly checked Activity Monitor and they all seem to range from 5 - 10 mb compared to previously as high as 90 - 100 mb!!!!!
I started with MacOS 10.4 in June and have upgraded thru 10.4.3.
Your mileage, of course, may vary. _________________ MacMini 1.25, 1 gb, 40 gb combo, 10.4.11, and MiniStack 80gb
