Hi, I have been browsing several forums with discussion, review, and recommendation of web hosting co, but got lost in so many non-clarified, pumping and bashing information ... So I decided to put a request here for you guys I deem to be unbiased, straight, and honest clean-cut opinions (as the helps I have received from mac-related topics.

Here goes: which web hosting co(s) you would recommend to be the server provider of my new web project? I am looking for a standard AMP server, medium size space and bandwidth (no limit is no good? because of sell-out problem?), fast page load-up, 99% up-time, and medium price for reliable sharing hosting server ($3 - $8 a mo)...

Please share your experience associated with the co you recommend. Thanks

If you can bump up your monthly expenses to around $20, go with a Grid plan from Media Temple. They offer great service and tools.

I have also had good luck with Aplus.net shared plans in the past.

Thanks. Without experience with any, but comparing MT and Aplus with MarbleHosting ( http://www.marblehost.com/ ) in the features and price as they offer at their websites, it seems Marblehosting has the edge. But then, like to hear from someone who have experience with MarbleHosting.

I'm not sure I know a company in your product range, but if you come across GreatValueHost - Run away as fast as you can. They used to be Fuitadnet.com, and that place was run into the ground faster than any could imagine.

They also have a company called Empire Hosting, but the Empire Hosting related companies that came up in Google didn't match up with the other company.

I know a couple people that are happy with Hostway's shared and VPS servers. I've also heard that our friends over at OWC do a nice job with their shared plans. If you're interested more in creating a blog, take a look at Squarespace. They do a really nice job with hosting and templates

Thanks, SC. I like your reply that directs to a 'run-away' warning before I even hear about the co.

Thanks, Brian. I'll check those co up, but I am pretty sure I want to do more than creating a blog.

I work part-time for a company whose website I'm currently updating. I've been pleasantly surprised by the prices, features and customer service of a really small website hosting/design company just down the road from where I work.

So, as well as checking out the big hosting companies that cover the whole country, maybe you could try looking at the websites of the local web companies advertising in your Yellow Pages. You might be pleasantly surprised. Smile

This may be true and I have the same feeling that local service could work closer and more efficiently with my work. However, a possible downside: many of these small local services are 'resellers' of some bigger hosting co (some may even be the reseller of a reseller). But I'll check around and see. Thanks

No problems fiat! I would recommend Startlogic, but I think they might be a bit more than you want to spend.

I checked their site and they did offer low price for 'unlimited' plan! Sound spooky? Also I couldn't find their server info and location. Not sure ...

But thanks for the info.

Yes that's true, Fiat -- many are hosting resellers. But one or two in my area have actually installed their own rack-mounted servers in Canary Wharf, London.... which was a surprise!

Check out machighway.com - I use it for home, been very happy. Good variety of hosting plans and I can not recall the last time I had any down time with them, unlike my work host ipower.com - I can not recommend them.
