How much memory is 'enough'?

I ordered my Mac Mini with 512Mb and plan to use it for iPhoto (RAW images from my Nikon D70), mail, browsing and iWork. No video editing.

'More is better' everybode says but how much performance gain can be expected from 512Mb -> 1Gb?

I would at the min get 512. If you are doing lots of Photoshop work I'd get a Gig. I think you will be ok and will be off to a good start.

I would say get 1gb. Then you'll be ready for Tiger. Plus you are worikng with "Raw Images" I take in photoshop?

512 is fine for day-to-day stuff but anything above that and you should be looking at 1GB. I have my iBook G4 maxed out at 640MB and there are days when I really wish for a little more. OSX is a memory hog.

OSX is kind of a memory hog! Don't even think of doing video editing or garageband with less than that.

3/4th way through is a little table showing Mac mini performance with both the 1.25 and 1.42 systems with 256, 515 and 1024 megs of ram. I'll paste the table below, but the spacing probably won't hold up on the forum.

I used to think that 512 was good enough. Recently a friend of mine showed how well a mac mini runs with 1GB. I think it's worth it if you can afford it. Though it's almost 200, if you're planning to use the mini for years, you can amortize the cost. (that's the excuse I use when i buy upgrades for my macs =)).

The way I look at it is that I'm getting a 1GB stick of 3200 400mhz memory. If I sell the Mini, I'll plop 256 back in it, buy another 1GB stick and throw them into a PowerMac G5 (the only thing I'd get if I sold the Mini).

The specs are right so it will work. I just never heard of that company but if they did you right go fot it! The price is pretty good.
