Version 2010.0 of Mandriva is released today. I have been testing it with Cooker for awhile and it's very good. Boot times have been improved and it seems speedier overall. I recommend that you give this version a try if you're interested in Linux.
Thnx. _________________ G4 Mac Mini | 1.25ghz | 1gb | 40gb | OS X 10.4.11 | 37" Westinghouse HDTV

So applications actually seem to start faster with it? Anything else you found particularly good about it, ghostdawg? What is Cooker anyway?
The last version of Mandriva I tried was 2008. It was very user friendly with nice graphics, but not notable for speed or anything else I can recall.
Now that openSUSE' default is KDE, I think of the two as fairly similar. openSUSE was the first Linux I ever tried, back when it was version 6.5. I actually bought the boxed version for about $60, but was not that impressed with it. Linux has come a long way since then! _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

Yes, it boots and runs faster than 2008 and somewhat faster than 2009.1. I like the fact how it will decide which apps you may not need, based on your system setup, and remove unwanted apps.
It will also adjust the install if it is being installed on a netbook/laptop and install strictly for that type of system.
I've had it installed since 2008 but started using it as my main OS since 2009 was released. I also have it on my AAO with the Gnome version.
Cooker is the testing/development version or repositories for those who like to run the bleeding edge system. In fact, I had switched 2009.1 to cooker about a month before 2010 was to be released. The upgrade went pretty smooth without any hiccups for me. _________________ G4 Mac Mini | 1.25ghz | 1gb | 40gb | OS X 10.4.11 | 37" Westinghouse HDTV

Mandriva just released a product called InstantOn for netbooks that's supposed to be smoking fast. Unfortunately you have to buy it ($15 US) to try it, but I'm tempted. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

The website claims 10 sec, but that's with an SSD. A review suggested less than 20 with a standard HD. Startup time on my MSI Wind with Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 or CrunchBang 9.04 is about 50 sec from grub menu to ready-to-go desktop with internet connection. If that's apples to apples, it would be quite an improvement.
Oops, that's InstantOn, not Mandriva 2010. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT
