JBL today announced the release of their Creature III speakers, an updated version of the popular three-piece speaker system that originally landed on desktops in 2002. The Creature III speakers are available in black and white and glow from the bottom. They also feature a more compact subwoofer and soft-touch tactile controls, which require only a slight touch to increase/decrease volume or mute the system. The speaker system also has the ability to recall volume settings. The JBL Creature III speakers have a suggested retail price of $129.99 and will be available exclusively at the Apple Store.

| For the price, the output doesn't seem very loud. Seems like you're paying more for form rather than function. |

| I had the Creature IIs and returned them because they were lacking a little in the bass department. I don't know if these are improved, but I do like the new styling. |

| My wife has the Creature II's and they sound pretty good. I've definitely heard worse when it comes to computer speakers. |

I had Cambridge Soundworks speakers for years. Even the cheapest models with the plastic subs are better than a lot of other computer speakers. I had a higher end model with a MDF (I assume) sub and I really enjoyed it. When the 110 volt power supply went (after about 10 years of use), I decided to replace it (It still worked off of 12 volts). |

Personally I think Logitech is the leader in desktop speakers. I have a low end X-230 2:1 setup and the bass/sound quality is jaw dropping. Paid $70 two years ago and it was the 2nd from the bottom set.
The Creatures may look better to some but for me it's more about function than form. Logitech wins hands down in sound quality. |
