|
|
If I install Fusion or Parallels on the mini, can I use a FireWire 800 drive for running windows? I guess Fusion or Parallels will be on the mini but the virtual machine will be located on the external drive.
I wanted to go this route to save space on the mini's hard drive. Not sure how much space my Windows virtual machine will command--I'm really only interested in a couple apps to run with it.
Also, if I chose to keep Windows on the mini, at what point after buying the mini and starting up with it do I have to commit to a partition size for BootCamp and/or Fusion-Parallels? Is that something that can be set up after other software has been loaded on the mini?
Thanks! |

Good article on installing Parallels. I semi-answered my question by getting the manuals online for Fusion and Parallels. The Fusion manual was particularly helpful.
Looks like Fusion and Parallels will help conserve disk space by avoiding partitioning. That file can be accessed from another disk, if needed. |

Here is what I did:
I have Vmware and windows XP.
I have a 2.5" 40Gb IDE HDD on a firewire external enclosure.
I cloned may system and deleted the unnecessary applications.
Then I removed Vmware from my Mac Mini
All I need to do is use this drive as a startup disk once it is plugged to my Mac Mini or Macbook.
It does not really answer your question but it can be a way to consider saving space in your Mac Mini HDD. _________________ Mac Mini i5 2.5 GHZ, 16GB Ram.

You can cheat!!!
Let me explain.
Search in google for how to install windows xp on a usb hard drive
There is a way to patch the usb driver using nlite to build a new xp disk once burned the disk will allow you to install windows xp on a usb hard drive and even install it on a firewire drive.
However i would recommend using boot camp or vmware |

It's debatable.
Those XP on a stick tricks assume the host machine is one with a BIOS system in place.
I cannot say for certain if the same system hack would work with EFI.
Therein lies the problem.
Tricking a EFI based machine to start up using Xp on a stick may be the hardest matter to overcome.
Although (with the above in mind) there is a group that have come up with a boot loader called Chameleon that works with OSX86.
