I have a small collection of them as well; some given to me free at conferences. They range in capacity from 250 mb to 8 gb. I use a 4 gb Cruzer as my regular file transfer drive, carrying it to work and transferring new files with it to my home mini. I have turned several into Linux-bootable drives to test out new distros or to hold repair distros (supergrub, parted magic). _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

I've been using mine for archiving purposes -- not just recent backups of constantly changing files, but for storing work that I did... ...almost 2 decades ago.
Maybe I should just burn a CD-ROM... _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

Or chisel it in stone. Seriously.
It's scary how quickly technologies become redundant.
(Try buying a new VHS player)
Recently, I read that NASA had to hunt high & low for an IBM machine that could read reel to reel tapes from the Moon landings.

Luckily..."Mr Holmes jokes that a 1970s Toyota Corolla fan belt could be used to get the recorder up and running"
I can imagine in two or three hundred years, most of our storage devices along with the data, will have turned to dust...
That's how knowledge vanishes...
Now where are my chisels ?

I dunno, Aqua.
In 1982, we were offered 12cm shiny discs that were encoded with music. 27 years later, the "Blu-ray" versions of those can hold 50GB of data. So maybe some things will endure.
If not, I could always store my most valuable data in "the cloud"... _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

Clouds have a habit of evaporating...
But I get your meaning.
Perhaps I am being a bit pessimistic.
But that said, its also one of the major reasons why I am against the use of Nuclear power.
Human beings have a proclivity to self destruction. Most civilizations have a used by date of about 300 to 400 years before things fall apart.
So who will be left to maintain the technologies & the waste dumps ?
No civilization has ever lasted long enough to make sure radioactive materials are safely decayed over that time span.

As a team, Aqua, you and I have a unique talent for taking threads off topic! In just four posts we've gone from USB flash drives to the repercussions of using a dangerous technology that outlives the civilisation that invented it. I love it!

Mate I'm a serious Lyzdexic from back way.
(That's Dyslexic for the uninspired)..
I can go off topic like a prawn in the sun.
I reckon, if we had a few pints down our necks, we'd even give Pete & Dud a bit of a run...for serendipitous humor.
Happy New year too btw..
