By theft.
As per Picasso's famous quote.
"Good artists borrow : Great artists steal"

I don't have a problem with them being a billion dollar company. They create jobs for people just like Apple, who is also a billion dollar company. I guess I have to come out of the closet and admit I'm a conservative, and don't have any problem with either of these companies making money.
We can still be friends can't we? haha I'm kidding guys, but really both of these companies are ran by arrogant jerks that have probably mistreated, and squashed many "small" people that have gotten in their way.

I've watched both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs since the First MITS World Altair Conference when I bought the first 8K BASIC from an 18 year old Gates. It is true that Bill Gates has been ruthless in crushing anything that threatened Microsoft. The stories are endless. But I can't say the same for Steve Jobs. All indications are Jobs and the Woz were always gracious and fair. They licensed the technology from Xerox Parc and have sought to design their own stuff rather than steal it, where as Microsoft has always stolen other people's ideas, recently admitting that Windows 7 is a knock-off of OS/X. _________________ Retired: Altair 8800, PET, TI 99/4A, Apple II

Jobs would rather die than copy somebody else. That's why you don't see any "me too" mini-tower copycat Macs, as much as a lot of people would like one. Gates has never suffered from that problem... his entire OS is a rip off first of Seattle Computer's rip of Digital Research's CP/M, then of IBM's OS2, then of Apple's Lisa/Mac Technology, and now of OS/X.
Edit: The rip of Apple's Retail stores is really too much though. Microsoft must not have a single original thought in their heads. _________________ Retired: Altair 8800, PET, TI 99/4A, Apple II
