This little laptop is pretty impressive.
Obviously Dell think that the Macbook Air has a future : otherwise why bring out their own version ?
It looks amazingly thin.
Only pity is it probably won't run OS-X.
(At least not officially)
But then it's probably going to be fitted out with Google's OS.
So that may be a consolation to us lovers of Linux.

| Dell seems to be copying the entire Mac line. First they copied the Mac Mini with the [yet to be seen] Zino HD, now they are copying the Mac Air. Apple must be succeeding to generate copycat computers! |

That's sort of true, but they do make a billion other models and netbooks. I do think that Apple set the trend with keyboards across the entire industry though. That sort of makes every laptop look like MacBook. |

Dell making a thinner notebook is far from copying Apple. Companies have been striving to make notebooks thinner ever since they started making notebooks. As Scooper mentioned Dell has many other notebooks, this just seems to be an extension of the product line. Even if Apple didn't exist I'm sure this model would have come out some day. Perhaps we will see thinner designs in the future by both companies. |

I was just looking at a review and some videos of the new Adamo on Engadget.

The design is actually pretty strange. I don't think it would make for a good laptop for sitting on your lap. Maybe I'm thinking about it wrong though. It does look to be a quality product. I mean, when you consider that it's coming from Dell. The boxing isn't even Dell like. |

This image shows up one of the more odd features.
Notice how the back-hinge is situated so that the lower portion of the lid acts to raise the keyboard & base off the floor ?

That's what I was talking about being akward. The design might have some merit for cooling when its on a flat surface, but must feel goofy away from the desk. Like you know, sitting on your lap. Oh well, I would never buy another Dell anyways. Their tech support is the worst in the world. |

Yes that's avery good point. It also is a clever way to allow cool air to circulate around the chassis.
Placing it in your lap would make it feel like a sharp edge was digging into your whats its...

I'll let you into a little secret.
That's why I never buy a Dell brand new.
Dells are far better value when they're a year or two out of warranty & can be picked up for next to nix from frustrated Dell users..
(I suspect, that the price drop is mostly due to their previous owners terrible experience at the hands of Dell's Tech support)... 
But I am not complaining of course....

The keyboard certainly looks like it's been copied from the Apple range. It looks remarkably similar to the MacBook Pro's.
The raised stand design is both quirky, and horrid. Not my cup of tea at all.

This thing was the size of a suitcase, we called them luggable's not laptops in those days.

You have piqued my interest.
That creature you posted in the above post, was technically not a laptop.
It would be fairer to call it a portable.
The first real laptop in terms of modular design with "flipform factor" was the GRiDCompass 1100 which was made in 1982.
It was made in the UK.
In 1985 it was the first laptop to fly into space with NASA.
