New Mac Mini CPU

Hello,

Can anyone tell me if the CPU on the new Mini is socketed? I have seen the Colo Teardown but it isn't pictured or mentioned and I have not seen any posts relating to this either...

I believe the October 2009 versions are running the P8400, P8700, and P8800.

I would imagine that they are still BGA, since noting else changed on the board, other than the CPU right?

The mini server post mentions its identical except for the parts upgrade. I think they would have noticed a socketed cpu and mentioned it.

I wonder where the person who wrote the wiki article obtained this info from?

If they are in-fact the actual model no's of the CPU's they've gotten from Intel, then they're the exact same model no's used by the Intel retail versions.

And so one could safely deduce that what's sourced from ark, is in fact the correct/full detail about these new Mini CPU's!

Here is the Intel comparison of all three Mac Mini presumed processor chips: 8400, 8700, 8800: From this comparison, the chips are nearly identical except for the clock speed.

Notice that the 2.66 model in the high end Mac Mini option just came out 2nd quarter, and yet made it into the OCT 09 upgrade release! That would disprove a lot of complaining that Apple doesn't keep up with processor trends or can't move fast to include new technology in their models!

Well the Wiki article turned out to be totally wrong...
It claims the model no's are: P7550, P8700, PP9600

If this is true then users with a 2.66Ghz CPU would have 6mb L2 cache and so far none have.
Also based on these model no's, the lowest-end CPU (2.26) doesn't have VT-x!
