Apple Intros Aluminum Remote Control

Apple today introduced a new aluminum Apple Remote for Mac, iPhone and iPod users. According to the company, this remote gives you total command of your music, photos, videos, and DVDs from anywhere in the room. It also works with Front Row to make accessing the digital content on your Mac as simple as navigating your iPod. The remote is compatible with the iPod Universal Dock and Macs introduced in 2005 or later that have a built-in infrared receiver. The aluminum Apple Remote is priced at $19 and should start shipping in 2-4 weeks.

No mention of the Apple TV on the product page. I find that a little strange. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I hope we get a new Front Row soon to go along with the remote. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

| I wonder how it compares to the size of the current remote? It looks taller, but I don't see the dimensions listed. |

It would be better for control out of the line-of-sight, but more complex and harder on the battery. IR also works with the dock, so they only have to make one product. |

Can it turn the mac min's power on? I hate having to reach to the back to hit the damn power button.
It's the only thing I don't like about the mini. |

No Billistics, but you can put your Mac to sleep and wake it. _________________ 2.4GHz MacBook Pro/4GB/320GB HD

| From the description, they say it works with Front Row so they must have fixed something in that regard. This should complete the HTPC package with SL. |

NOOO!! We wouldn't be able to use our Harmony remotes anymore (same thing that's happening with the PS3's)! _________________ My home setup |

Take a picture of the new and old one together. I'd like to see the difference in size. |

How about if Logitech just comes out with a Bluetooth feature built into their remotes. They can still support IR along with Bluetooth. This is long overdue. Technology isn't going to stop just to please Logitech and Harmony users.
I have a Harmony remote and I don't even use it. It's not a cheap one either. I got it when I worked for the phone company. We used to offer them with IPTV, but they became a huge support issue, so the Telco stopped giving them away.
IR is long overdue to be replaced. |

That sounds good to me pmjb.
Having a mixture of IR and Bluetooth would be be awesome. In the Harmony remotes and Apple remote. It really seems like Apple should have been using Bluetooth all along. Then again, it probably would have made the them more expensive. |
