Intel Based Mac Mini in January?
Monday November 7, 2005
A new report by UBS Investment Research suggests that Apple could release an Intel-based Mac Mini as soon as January 2006, at the upcoming Macworld Expo. "The analyst said Apple would introduce more video content and digital entertainment offerings at Macworld in January, helping to drive shares. Checks also indicate that the company may be ready to launch lower-end Intel based Macs earlier than its original June 2006 target, with the possibility of an Intel-based Mac Mini at Macworld," notes Forbes.com. Macworld Expo takes place January 9th-13th in San Francisco.

I have a hunch this rumor/report is true for three reason.
1. It marks the one-year anniversary of the Mac mini being released.
2. Apple never officially announced the 1.5GHz with 64MB video models.
3. Apple doesn't have to wait for the new high end Intel chips that are coming out later in the spring because the Mac mini is Apple's entry-level computer. |

And,
a 2GHz Pentium M would be an upgrade as well.
I wonder what video card will be ? Perhaps an ATI 9600 mobile. hmmm. _________________ iMac 20" Intel Duo Core, 2G RAM, 250G HDD

| I have a feeling Apple is going to do away the Mac mini having a dedicated video. I bet they end up using Intel's 915 GM chipset like Aopen's mini PC. |

GAWD, I hope not. Having a dedicated video chip is the only way to deliver smooth multimedia without a ton of general CPU power.
Having a low i915 would have even OS X's desktop waiting. Yuck. _________________ iMac 20" Intel Duo Core, 2G RAM, 250G HDD

The current G4 1.42 mini serves me well but this will definitely be the next upgrade for me if the specs are sufficiently improved. If not, I'll wait a while until they are. Anyone concerned about being on the bleeding edge of the Mac/Intel transition? I know they've been running OS X on Intel for a while now but I wonder if it might not be wise to drop back and let others experience any initial growing pains with the new architecture once it hits the streets. _________________ 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

crikey i hope this isnt true to be honest. im a day or 2 away from ordering my mini and i dont want it completely obsolete a month or 2 later.
(i dont see an increase in vram, faster drive etc as being completely obsolete . but an entire core change, thats very different.)

I'm a little concerned about becoming a beta tester of sorts, but the transition shouldn't be that bad if Rosetta lives up to everything advertised. Although, I'd be pretty enthusiastic about a becoming a beta tester for the new Mac mini with 2GHz Pentium M, 512MB, SuperDrive, Core Image video, Airport Extreme, Bluetooth 2.0, and Front Row with remote for $699. |

I've been waiting weeks for Apple to officially announce the updated Mac minis. I will be waiting until January now. These Intel minis sound better and might include FrontRow. |

I would wait until July to buy a second generation of intel based Mac, just in case some ugly viruses find their way in.
No Beta testing for me, I pass |

I really don't think viruses will be a problem during or after the transition. |
