I'm having a problem seeing new posts to the forum. When I first visit the forum I see loads of new posts but as soon as I open one to read it, all the others get marked read. I thought this was a time related issue at first, as usually I open 5 forums at once in tabs and then work my way through them, by the time I get to 123MM all the posts are marked old.

Today I opened 123MM on its own to test this theory but it still happened as soon as I read my first message.

Any ideas guys ?

I take it you aren't using the new posts search?

I think this happens sometimes with phpBB forums where clicking on any link sets the last time visited, and everything gets lost. Maybe you might wanna clear your 123Mm cookies and try it.

I guess I'm not quite understanding the problem.

If you are using the neposts search and you open the posts you want in tabs or behind windows, then I'm not sure why there would be a problem with the forum marking the posts as old, since you would still have the newposts page to go back to.

Everything seems to be working okay, but it could be unique to your account. If clearing the cookies doesn't help like SC suggested, please let me know. Sorry for not getting back sooner, but a couple of us have been sick with the flu this week.

no worries Charles I'll delete cookies now and see how it goes.

BTW I just logged in for the very first time today and the forum was only showing 1 new post to me. That’s why it isn't working for me doing the New Posts trick Smithcraft.

As an example, I hadn't read this thread but both of your replies were already flagged as old messages.

Well, that's deffo something different from what I thought.

Are you logging out, or just closing the windows when done? Maybe there is something that is making your browser, or the forum think you are here later?

I rarely log out, usually just close safari or navigate away.

Same here, I was just wondering if maybe there is something that you might be running that might sniff 123Mm and then 123Mm says that you visited at that point.

no I don't have anything like that. I did put it down to logging on from work at dinner times, but I haven't been doing that for a few weeks now. Yet when I log in at night occasionally (not everytime) I get the no new posts problem

Weirdly this morning I deleted all the cookies set by 123macmini. I haven't been back since but on returning its logged me straight in. Guess I should have rebooted or something after clearing the cookies.

Just retried deleting cookies, but this time I also cleared the cache and shutdown safari.

I had to log back in this time so it looks like it did delete everything correctly. I'll see how it goes with the missing new posts problem now.

Thanks for your help SC, Charles, & Brian

Clearing the cookies didn't work. I've just visited the forums for the first time today and there are no new posts flagged, but looking at the main forum index I can see there should be.

I guess I throw out some random ideas -

A different browser?

A different user account on your computer(as opposed to a different member account on the forum)?

Here's one about how you use your mini - Does it run continuously, or does it start up at certain times?

Yes, trying a different browser is looking favourite at the moment, Charles also suggested the same in a pm earlier

BTW how are the post markers maintained. If it was just cookie based then it would only update the computer you were logged in from. Today I have only visited the forum from my iMac but I've just logged in from my MBP and all the posts I've read today on the iMac are already marked read on the MBP but a new post in HTPC was highlighted as a new post , so this can't just be cookie based. Does the forum also remember your last login / visit ?

I will try to do my first log in each day via the MBP and see if the problem replicates itself on there as well.
