Apple has released Performance Update 1.0 for Leopard and Snow Leopard via their Software Update utility and website. According to the company, this update addresses intermittent hard drive-related stalls reported by a small number of customers. More information about this update and qualifying Macs can be found here. The Performance Update 1.0 for Leopard weighs in at 322KB and requires Mac OS X 10.5.8. The update for Snow Leopard, on the other hand, weighs in at 300KB and requires Mac OS X 10.6.1.

| I haven't either Fazzy, but I'm a sucker for anything that says performance. |

I don't ever remember there being a "Performance Update" in recent mac history. I'm game. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

Maybe they should have called it the "Opps, I forgot that!" update! |

| Yeah, that's kind of a screwy name for an update. The word performance sort of implies more than just returning a hard drive to normal operation. |

Perhaps Apple is going to further segregate updates ie, security, performance and who know what else. This is just 1.0 and I guess they felt it fit under this category.
I personally don't care what Apple calls their updates as long as they are free and they make my machine run better and more secure. |

| This update messed my displays up for some reason. It changed my primary display from Mini DVI to Mini DisplayPort. Going into Displays and changing the menubar location didn't seem to hold after a restart. I had to physically unplug the display connected with Mini DisplayPort and just let it start with the one connected to Mini DVI. Then shutdown and reconnect the display with Mini DisplayPort. That seems to have reset it back now. I just thought that I would share this if anyone runs into the same problem. |

| I hope this resolves the issue with a 17" MBP that a friend has with the 500GB 7200rpm drive. It pauses up for about 15 to 20 seconds every few minutes. |

When all else fails, just reset Safari.
Luckily, Safari seems to be fine for me.

The unibody MacBook Pros can't seem to catch a break with faster drives. It must all trace back to that 1.5Gbps situation Something just doesn't seem right with them. Here's hoping this helps your friend though. |

Actually, we have noticed that our mini seems to pause once in a while for no reason.
Let's see what happens. |

Same here with a WD Scorpio Black at 7200rpm while surfing and opening applications from time to time. It doesn't really seem consistent. What kind of drive do you have? |

| I've noticed occasional stalling behavior after replacing the hard drive to 320 Go Seagate Momentus 7200.4. Hope this resolves the issue. |
