| Will they support Blu-ray, 8GB of RAM and booting into the 64 bit kernel in Snow Leopard? If so, I'm in like Flynn at $499 and saying goodbye to the thought of buying a new PC for Windows 7. |

| Personally, I hope they NEVER change the dimensions of the Mac Mini. It's perfect. But I wish they would put top of the line components inside, subject to heat and power limitations of course, so we don't have to do major surgery on the little box to get decent performance out of it. |

if they made the mini 1 inch taller it could fit a pair of 1tb drives model
number wd10tevt.
give it a 2.53ghz processor and handle 8gb ram.
also make the dvd do blu-ray and add an hdmi outlet.
this is a makable machine. how about that a 2tb dual hdd with raid as a yes or no choice.
8gb ram with blu-ray and a 2.53ghz processor. just 1 inch taller.

I think, it's time they have an eSATA output too, Firewire 800 is so...90ties. I'm NOT happy with their own special connection for a monitor, because HDMI would be just as handy, but that's Apple...

I would be happy if they just wired the mini-display port with the digital sound out so the mini-display to HDMI connector would create a true HDMI cable connection to the TV/Monitor! |

Guys, can we just leave Fantasy Island for a moment?
The all-in-one design has been Apple's "signature dish" since 1984. Steve Jobs loves it. When he returned to Apple in the late nineties, he ditched all of the beige PowerPC boxes and had Jonathan Ives design the original iMac; an all-in-one. The iMac is Steve Jobs' baby and is therefore something of a "sacred cow" at Apple.
That's why there's always a gap in spec between the Mini and the iMac -- Apple deliberately hobble the Mini to protect sales of the iMac. So, to work out what specs the Mini is likely to have, imagine what specs the cheapest iMac will have and then downgrade them like there's no tomorrow.
In other words, you can probably forget the idea of a Mini with 8 gigs of memory, 1TB of storage and quad-core processors, no matter how "do-able" or "make-able" it is. Apple won't manufacture anything that might undermine the iMac.

Johnny I agree they are not going to raise it an inch and allow 2 drives. they are not making a quad core. at best 2.53 on the high end.

That's why so many people do leave Mini-land and go for an iMac, a Power Mac or more recently a PC and use eFix or Chameleon bootloader to run OS X on way cheaper, more affordable and expandable hardware...

it is a shame . if they made them right. it would be the best
htpc/music server in a 4 by 6 by 6 inch box. they could fit
2 wd10tevt drives = 2tb storage
1 blu-ray player
a 2.53 ghz cpu
and 8gb ram
along with a dvi a hdmi a eSata a fw800 and some USB's.
this would hurt iMac Sales for sure must be why they won't build it.

| I'm not convinced the iMac Steve Jobs connection dictates the configuration of the Mac Mini. But I do believe the GPU 9400 is key and someone said the quad cores are not compatible with the 9400 so I am sure no Macs will get quad cores any time soon. And I don't think the form factor of the Mac Mini will change (thank goodness), so that rules out 3.5 inch drives. But I do hope the memory and HDD options improve and hopefully the mHz offering too. |

If they are available online this week that means the stores would have them this week as well right? I'd like to go in and get one rather than dealing with the agony of waiting for shipping.

Sure, but they've already made the Apple TV which is the Apple version of what they want consumers to have. Why make one box when you can get consumers to buy two. Pretty green of them.

the apple tv is obsolete . I have pulled apart and modded enough minis to say they have a real chance to make a special piece of gear with not much effort on their part

They did update the Mac mini while Steve was away. 
I think the iMac holds a special place in Steve J's heart, but some people will always hate all-in-one computers. I gave one a try and worked fine. I just hated the glossy glass screen. If they dumped the glass screen, I might consider buying one again down the road. I do prefer headless computers like the Mac mini and Mac Pro overall though.
I don't think there is any chance of Blu-ray coming to the Mac. We got your HD downloads right here. I think that is basically Apple's attitude. |

| Fry's is selling netbooks with 1 GB RAM and 160 GB HDD for $350, and HP Pavillion Slimlines with Quad Cores, 6 GB RAM, 750 GB HDD with Blu-Ray ROM and TV Turner for $880. The MacRumors ranting is right; Apple needs to re-position the price/performance of the Mac Mini line in that price range. |
