Thanks for looking into this. Now My pocket book can rest easier and I can stop daydreaming of 8GB memory in my mini! _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

It will end when the world do and with our luck that's when they make a prototype Mac mini with Blu-Ray Drive and 8GB DDR3, 2.53GHz Core Duo 2 6MB Cache with a 256GB SSD and 512MB NVIDIA 9900GT. _________________ 24" LED Cinema Display,Mac Mini '09, 2.0GHz,

It really irks me that Apple have imposed this limit on the Mini, all of the hardware and software supports 8GB of RAM (in the 2009 model) so why don't they allow it??
Maybe because it it did and it was also able to boot with 64 bit kernel then people would be putting Snow Leopard Server on them instead of forking out for the overpriced X-Serve ... |

There's your answer! In an effort to protect the profit margins of higher-end systems like the Mac Pro. Apple wants to make a lot more money! I'm actually surprised they kept it going. Because the 2009 Mac mini line is actually powerful line of ALL the Mac mini they ever made. I mean mine is really holding in it down. Now with Snow Leopard its a lot better! Yeah I want 8GB DDR3 too but with the EFI limit to 4GB DDR3 not happening! But you gotta think if you put a 256GB SSD then that make it a powerful desktop! It will be difficult to market a BIG $3299 system when you have a $799 system with a fast boot and with a stable operating system. _________________ 24" LED Cinema Display,Mac Mini '09, 2.0GHz,

While it could be that Apple doesn't want the Mac mini to cannibalize their higher-margin systems, it's also possible that Apple simply hasn't validated it for more than 4GB of main memory. The hardware doesn't necessarily support more than that, even if it appears that it should; this sort of thing cost Intel a great deal with the RDRAM fiasco. It's hard to say if one isn't inside of Apple's engineering department, but it's not as simple as having proper EFI, chipset and OS support.

|
|
I have installed EFI firmware and superdrive update, but now only my mini is silent when it wakes up from sleep; at startup it still makes noise (from superdrive?) before the chime.
After update my system (10.5. record shows:
Boot ROM: MM31.0081.806
Serial ATA: OPTIARC DVDRW AD-56705
Rev. 2AH1
Is that the 2AH1 rev supposed to silent superdrive both at startup and wakeup? What's wrong with my mini now? Thanks for help. |

I bought mine from Amazon in April. Different sellers (and discount) could be the reason getting products with different (lower grade) parts. Did you buy yours from apple directly? |
