Friday, August 28, 2009

Apple has posted a new support document listing printers and scanners that are supported with Snow Leopard. The drivers that ship with Snow Leopard for Brother, Canon, Epson, FujiXerox, Gestetner, Gutenprint, HP, Infotec, Lanier, Lexmark, NRG, Ricoh, Samsung, Savin and Xerox printers are also available for download now. The company also posted another support document listing incompatible software with the new operating system. It goes on to explain how this software is dealt with during and after the installation process.

| I would make sure you have EyeTV upgraded to 3.1.2. They have 3.0.0 to 3.1.0 being listed as incompatible. |

The HP P1005 is NOT compatible with Snow Leopard. I can only guess that would also apply to the other P1000 series printers to as they use the same driver.
An HP tech support rep told me they are working on an update. |

I wonder if EyeTV 2.5.3 is compatible? ...Probably not. I'd probably have to upgrade if I get SL.
I'd assume it has something to do with changes to Quicktime? |

Anyone heard about an update for the Deskjet F300 series, specifically the F380? Emailed HP and haven't heard anything yet. |

AGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
We had heaps of trouble with our Brother MFC-465CN, now don't start with the 'what do you expect, you bought a brother'. Thats not the issue here. The issue is that after upgrading to Snow Leopard our network printer wasn't working on the network. We got this really weird error message in the print cue about an invalid nickname. So I spent some time this morning chatting with a snow leopard specialist and its all fixed! We had to use the original version driver off the Brother install disc (version 1.0). It works again now! The wife is happy, so i am very very happy!

More or less did something like that on my HP. Luckily a guy from HP has been pretty helpful on this thread over at the Apple forums:

Unfortunately, I still can't scan yet, but I can at least print now, which helps a lot, as I do far more printing than scanning. |

Hi,
This is basically the procedure the snow leopard specialist did to help me:
You need to power down the printer, unplug your printer from your mac or disconnect from network.
' 'Now, important step - do you still have your original driver disc that came with the printer, cause if this doesn't work, as it didn't for me you'll have to reinstall the original driver and then it works (Version 1.0).
You need to drag your printers folder to the desktop 'yourHD/Library/Printers'
Power down mac
Reconnect printer to mac/network
Turn on printer
Restart Mac
Go to system preferences/Print & Fax, and select printer - make default, go into Options/Driver and try to select MFC 465-CN CUPS as driver, as its not available it should connect to the web to get the driver from Apple. And then select CUPS driver, etc - I'm a little hazy on this as it all happened so quickly over the phone.
If the Mac won't connect to software update either by itself or when you ask it to from the apple menu, or in my case, it connected but said the software was up to date, then you'll need the original driver disc from Brother to reinstall the printer.
Once you do a test print of anything and is working fine - move Printers folder on desktop to trash.
Good to go - I hope that helps

For those of us that are having trouble with Hewlett-Packard devices; here is the work around that I ended up using to get my Deskjet F4180 to work.
⓵ Delete the HP folder from Macintosh HD:Library:Printers
⓶ Empty the trash.
⓷ Delete your printer from the System Preferences.
⓸ Install the 10.5 Leopard software but; Do Not Start Any of the Applications, yet.
⓹ Go to the Hewlett-Packard folder in Macintosh HD:Applications
⓺ Select all of the applications that you intend to use. Get Info (Command-I) on all. Check the Open with Rosetta box. Close all of the Info windows.
⓻ All of HP's software should now work, albeit a little more slowly since it is opening with Rosetta.
The printer should now work. It seems normal in Pages, Preview, Numbers, etc. However, it does not seem to like TextEdit documents. Also, it will not scan with Preview or Image Capture. It will scan using the HP Scan Pro application.
I realize that this is not the best of circumstances; but, I can say it worked for me. I kept a clone of 10.5.8 so, I was not completely out in the woods but; I was interested to see if I could get functionality. Hopefully, this will hold those who are more printer dependent than others. _________________ Mac Book 2.1 Ghz (Penryn) 10.6.7 4Gb DDR2
