Apple Shipping Snow Leopard on August 28th
Monday, August 24, 2009
Posted by: Glenn
Well, the cat is out of the bag. Apple has announced that Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard will go on sale Friday, August 28th at Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers, and that Apple's online store is now accepting pre-orders. According to the company, Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and success with hundreds of refinements, new core technologies and out of the box support for Microsoft Exchange. Snow Leopard is available as an upgrade to Mac OS X Leopard users for $29. The Snow Leopard Family Pack, a single household, five-user license, is also available for $49.

I got me a family pack ordered up. I'll probably wait a couple days to install it though. I just want to make sure there are not major issues being reported. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| I guess the stores will have them first thing in the morning on Friday, right? I remember waiting in line for Leopard all afternoon while they shutdown and remodeled the freakin store. |

I should have just ordered mine from Apple instead of Amazon. I doubt mine will be coming on Friday now. |

The only thing I have seen so far is that menu meters and 1Password haven't seen a compatibility update yet. There are a few more that aren't compatible yet. But the two mentioned are the only two I use that don't work yet.
Wait till you use Safari. BLAZING FAST!
Oh and Xbench ( extremely outdated ) is reporting much lowers scores on people machines running 10.6 _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

| Does anyone know the internal build# that finally made the gold master? Rumor was 10A432 but I doubt they plan to ship a version containing obvious bugs. |

10A432 is most likely the "GM" build. Developers received no release after this. It is highly unlikely Apple created a new build and had it packaged and shipped in under two weeks after 10A432. I expect a 10.6.1 before the end of Sept. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

I'm sure there will be others, but that's good to hear. You know the crew at 1Password will get something out fast.

A fast Safari 4? That's worth a good $30 dollars.

I hardly bother with it man. Just before and after upgrades for comparison. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| I am surprised they released it early with some of the bugs out there people are talking about. Mail was supposedly acting up pretty bad. Did you notice anything like that TonyMontana? |

You know the mail had some trouble connecting to one of the outgoing SMPT servers. It just needed a different port and it was good to go. The outgoing Gmail server wasn't working at first either but seemed to self remedy itself. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

I just use POP with AT&T and Gmail. That said, I thought it was more of a crashing problem than with like protocols. I guess we'll find out on Friday. Stuff that works perfectly isn't much fun anyways. I like getting my hands a little dirty. |
