Plex 0.8.2 Released
Monday, August 10, 2009
Posted by: Glenn
The team over at Plex has announced the release of Plex 0.8.2, a new version of their media center software for the Mac. New features in this release include a redesigned shutdown options menu, Now Playing screen with visualizer, improved responsiveness and support for Snow Leopard, bandwidth-based caching, a Shuffle context menu item in the photos area, and the ability to link with system sound and use Plex Media Server photo sources as slideshow screensavers. This release also includes approximately two-dozen or so bug fixes. Plex 0.8.2 weighs in at 103MB and requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

I like that it just quits now instead of going to that stupid screen with the icons. Hey, one less click equals more remote battery life. |

Plex is one of my favourite Mac apps.
My only gripe with it, is that it occasionally gives me a few problems with not adding new episodes to the TV listings which gets very frustrating. I can play them through the Video section but not through TV which is weird.
Hope this new version sorts it out _________________ Phil

Yeah, but it's easier to hit by mistake and close everything down in one shot. I think they should have just left things alone or styled it more like shutdown in XBMC. I like those glowing icons in XBMC and how they transition onto the screen much better. |

I think that's more of a problem with the tvdb that is used not updating, and not a Plex problem.

Based on the filename and S01E01 info it should still be able to list the episode in "TV shows". In fact it is listing the Series header in TV shows so it must be reading the filename of the avi. It is also going out to the Internet and returning a graphic. Yet it still shows 0 episodes available (0 Watched / 0 Unwatched). _________________ Phil

It's great that you can link to system sound for the web stuff now, but I don't see much else that excites me. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

Not that great for me so far.
- Things got off to a bad start. I wasn't able to use the auto update in 0.8.1 for updating.
- Video keeps shifting about half way up the screen while playing Video_TS folders. Like between the cuts of a movie or fast scenes. It's very distracting.
- All my thumbs for stacked movies are missing. |
