Microsoft today announced the release of Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 2, a free update that promises to improve the speed, stability and compatibility of the office suite. According to the company, the update also delivers highly requested features throughout the suite as well as a new tool, Document Connection for Mac, that helps improve access and browsing to documents on SharePoint Products and Technologies and Microsoft Office Live Workspace. The update is available for download from the Mac Business Unit website and using the AutoUpdate tool in Office 2008. It weighs in at approximately 300MB. A free 30-day trial is also available for new users.

Office 2008 has been a tremendous disappointment for me performance wise, so I can't wait to get home from work and give this try.

...I still prefer iWork. SharePoint is important though. The company I work for will be getting Mac's in for testing next week, I wonder if this Office and SharePoint improvement had anything to do with the decision.

Me too. I switched to iWork back when it was the only Universal kid on the block and haven't looked back. I'm interested in learning more about the online stuff for the next version though. I guess that's the future for office suites.

I was never able to get the first service pack to install. After it initiated and downloaded it would tell me that office was not installed on my hard drive...

lol

Mini is in the shop now for a new logic board, I'll try this one when I get it back...

Me either. In fact, I still think 2004 feels faster in many ways. I find that to be incredibly disappointing.

I agree with the others, it's faster, it does start-up in 2-4 seconds now, as opposed to who knows how long it used to take ...which felt like an eternity.
