absolutely new 123macmini.com member.
i looked for this info and did not find it.
so please forgive if this is already been discussed.
can the macmini be used as a headless server, without monitor, keyboard, mouse etc? |

Yes, depending on the version of OSX that you have you can use Screen Sharing (built in to 10.5), Remote Desktop or other program to control it. Both of my Minis are controlled this way.

It sure can. Thats the way I use mine for HTCP. If I need to access it I use a remote program like VLC to access it from any other Mac/PC in the house.

| When hooking up the Mac Mini for first-time use, will I absolutely need a keyboard connected to it, or is there a way to do the first-time configuration remotely using a macbook pro, without a physical keyboard attached to the mini? |

Yes, you will need a keyboard, mouse and monitor the first time to set up what ever version of sharing, etc.
After that, you should be good to go!

I thought VLC was for viewing Video's and such.
You must mean VNC.
