Yeah, but wasn't it great while it lasted?
That really sucks man! No backups with POP? |
I'm still using the account and no, I did not make backup with POP. If there is a handy way to send all of my stuff automagically to my T'bird, I think, I would do it, but I figured out this should not be neccesary. I'm still waiting until someone in charge with get back to me, but it is weekend now.... _________________ ___________________Jim©

Anyway, I got answer from Gmail with tips how to avoid someone else can break into my account and erase everything! They don't want to admit there might be a software glitch which may cause this. It happened when I kept my Safari open and Gmail loaded on it all afternoon. I heard something similar happened with people using Firefox 2.0 in december 2006. _________________ ___________________Jim©

| I have yet to find something that has the features and functionality of MobileMe. ...Microsoft is trying hard though, and might even be a free option. |

I use Gmail and Yahoo both but access them from Apples Mail App.
The only time I use my browser to view my mail is if I delete
something by mistake, then I'll just get it back via my browser. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

One nice thing about Gmail is it's enormous storage capacity.
You can have 4-5 email accounts (friends, family, work, spam, dating etc.) dump everything into one Gmail account. You can then have your 2-3 devices ie. home computer, work computer, phone, point towards that Gmail account. If you buy another device ie iPad, just have it point towards that 1 Gmail account. Each device can then access mail from your 4-5 email accounts. If you are away from your devices, no problem your mail, files whatever you choose to store is all accessible via the web.
The enormous storage space from a Gmail account allows you to keep and store all the content is one place (keep back-ups of course).
It's a simple way to manage a complex lifestyle. We all seem to be going that way. It makes sense to make management easy.
Of course there are downsides to this topology ie. if the main gmail account gets messed up, but it works for me. |
