We just got our mini, and my sons are big Starcraft (and Diablo II) fans. They noticed that the discs are supposedly mac compatible, and have asked me to install them.

Can I get some tips?

thanks.

Installers for Blizzard's games that are native to OS X can be found on their site. Unfortunately, the code is still OS 9, so it's pretty buggy and slow for the level of graphics. I would recommend software acceleration for these games, as D2x crashes frequently on mine, though less often after I disabled hardware acceleration.

Hello,

sorry for bumping a topic a few months old but im interested in what you mean by software acceleration.

could you elaborate a bit more?

i ask because diablo2 is one of the games i'll be playing on my mac when i get it.
any problems i would like to identify before installation rather than pulling hair at that time.

Software acceleration means that the CPU performs all of the acceleration work that a GPU normally does. It basically means don't use the GPU. Of course, since I now have Quartz 2D enabled on my Mini, I don't know how the OS will render D2x, since most of it is 2D, though it's drawn using the CPU. I think it'll just be rerouted to the GPU, though I'm not sure. It's one of the graphics options you get the first time you run the program.
