Roxio Introduces Easy VHS to DVD for Mac

Roxio today announced the immediate availability of Roxio Easy VHS to DVD for Mac, a combination of software and hardware that provides users with a way to convert and transfer personal video and entertainment stored on VHS tape to DVD. To convert analog content, users simply attach the included USB video capture device to their high-speed USB 2.0 port, and then capture from virtually any analog video source. S-Video and composite-video input cables enable full-resolution DVD recording from VCRs, VCR/DVD combo players, and analog camcorders including Hi8 and V8 models. The resulting video files can then be recorded to DVD, complete with a custom menu background and chaptering, using the included special version of Roxio Toast, or exported directly to iMovie for editing. Roxio Easy VHS to DVD for Mac is available for a suggested retail price of $79.99.

| I would still rather have or use an EyeTV tuner, but this sounds like a better deal than the one Elgato released the other week. I have a question though. What's all the interest in VHS and analog transfers all a sudden? |

Sounds to good to be true that is because it is.
Most of these kits i have seen suck.
You can record from vhs to dvd as long as the vhs doesn't contain macrovision encoding.
On top of that the tuner can only be used in there software only.
For that much money i would just rather spend the extra money and get a real tuner and a free application to record video. |

Blu Ray IS a bag of hurt, until it is possible to burn bluray discs on your own BDrecorder without needing a key, until the prices of BD are the same as DVD's and also for the players and, sorry to say, until it is possible to rip them just as easy as any DVD! It will probably again come from the Linux community as of course those users are (again, just like with DVD in the past) not included in the talks with the mighty movie industry. I say this as a BD user and BDplayer owner!
At the other side, I think the Roxio thing is way to expensive, especially owning Toast Titanium already. Who knows a cheaper devise which will work with free capturing or already available Apple software?

Yeah, pity the US porn industry made that the world standard(!!), otherwise we would have had the superior 2 side playable VHS2000 system from Philips, another great invention because they invented the cd too and introduced it together with Sony. The little hole in the middle of the cd (still the same as with DVD and BD!) the exact size as the former 10 (guilder)cents coin used in the Netherlands, the "dubbeltje" (little double).
BTW I still own 2 S-VHS machines and S-VHS tapes which when good material from a good source is recorded, is definately not bothersome to watch. The difference with upscaled DVD and other HD content is obvious though when watched on a plasma 100 Hz 42" Panasonic...
