|
|
After like hours of having my Mac Mini on & iTunes Opened, I no longer see my Apple TV listed in iTunes & obviously when I turn on the ATV, it can't find my stuff. It just disappears out of the List on Left hand side in iTunes. I tried moving the ATV to a different spot possibly thinking of interference but it does not help. Another Question. When your Mac goes to Sleep, does that affect you losing the ATV Synch ? btw, I'm streaming all my stuff. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

Sleep doesn't seem to affect my streaming whatsoever. I can also switch to other content on the Mac. It just keeps on going and going.
Have you tried removing your Apple TV from within iTunes and entering a new passcode? That may prevent you from losing it again. I would lose mine occasionally after iTunes updates and that always seemed to fix it. |

Grover Time,
No I have not tried that. I think I will give it a try. Sounds like a plan. So just Delete the Apple TV Under Preferences in iTunes & start Fresh. Enter Code, etc.. I'll let you know how It works out. Thanks.

Grover Time,
I just did what you said. You have to Reset Settings (not Factory Restore) on the ATV as well. Then you get the Code. Well, hopefully it will work. Time will tell. I shut my Mac off at night but the second I open iTunes, it finds the ATV and Synchs. It just loses synch some how as the day goes on with iTunes open. Strange! Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

Still have the same problem. Anytime the computer goes to sleep for over an hour, iTunes Loses Synch with ApplelTV. If I then, shut down iTunes & reopen iTunes, the ATV synchs again and stays until my Mac Mini goes to sleep for more than hour. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

| I'm not sure. To be honest, I'm using a Mac mini with my TV these days. The Apple TV has been relegated to a spare room. I just find the Mac mini to be way more flexible with Plex and Boxee. I wonder if it could be something with the wireless mode you're using or with the router. Have you tried the Apple TV via ethernet to see if it still does the same thing? |

| I would also try hooking the TV up via a ethernet cable to determine whether it is an interference issue. Go from there. |

Probably an excellent troubleshooting measure. Unfortunately that would require a 50+ Ft. Cable. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

| Does the Apple TV need an active video connection to work? If not, you might be able to test it running headless and closer to your router with a shorter ethernet cable. That shouldn't affect the Apple TV from showing up in iTunes. You may need to change the connection type or disable the AirPort card while it's still connected to the TV though. Just a thought. |

Funny thing is I get a strong Signal to my Router. As long as my Mac Mini does not Sleep, all is good. It's only like 50 FT from Router to ATV. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

Under System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options
there is a checkbox for Wake Options: Wake for Ethernet network administrator access.
I'm not certain if this works with wifi, but it's worth turning it on to see if that fixes things. Maybe it will keep that wifi signal active during sleep. |

Have you tried changing the wireless channel on your router? I would go through the entire range of 1-11. I would also turn sleep off on your Mac mini. This will rule out interference or sleep being the problem. You also need to have "Look for Apple TVs" checked in iTunes and your firewall set to allow all incoming connections. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

Haven't changed the Channel 1-11 in Router but did Open Specific Ports a while back for ATV. Firewall is Off. Allow All Incoming selected. I'm pretty sure if I never allow the Mac to go to sleep, I never lose Synch. I'll try it though. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

Hey Dino, man I haven't posted here in a while I don't know how that happened. Anyway your issue is shared by a lot of people, I looked around and most people ended up doing restarts on the computer to get it back on. It looks like it might be in certain versions of iTunes that this is happening, but I have never had this problem.
I would check which version of iTunes you are on first and than we can go from there. |
