More importantly it is using the nvidia ion GPU which means easily output 1080p!!!!
I wouldn't scoff at the Atom CPU. My Wind has the 1.6Ghz Atom CPU and it runs quite nicely at 1.983Ghz! (I've overclocked it by 24%) It handles regular video playback quite nicely and I almost always have about 8 apps running at any one time with no hiccups. _________________ Automotive Digital Marketing

If it comes with the ability to load OSX onto it, I would definitely consider this over another Mini in the living room. _________________ Mercury TiBook 400MHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD, Airport

Acer has had some interesting designs in the past with their Altos servers(I should have snagged that one from the bin!). Hopefully this will turn out pretty nice.

Well it does look nice, but this thing falls short in a few places...
1- Why they went with the single-core Atom 230 instead of the dual core Atom 330, I have no idea.
2- VGA out? What's the point of having a box that can push 1080p, but then be limited to analog output? I guess just to save a few $. Hopefully, they will have options.
This is only the first to be slated for release, so I expect we'll see some better offerings that use the Ion platform by the end of the year. Once you get up into the $500+ range, however, it's hard to compete with the Mac Mini as far as performance goes on a small box like this.
It is sexy though. |

I don't get that one either. The HDMI port is great, but they should have gone with DVI over VGA. I just hate using video adapters and stuff. Oh, wait a second now... _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

Doh! I didn't even see that it had an HDMI port. That makes more sense now. |
