Monoprice today announced the immediate availability of their Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. According to the company, this adapter fully supports the Mini DisplayPort standard with a maximum resolution of 1920x1080p. The adapter is priced at $14.25. If you're interested in learning more, head over to Gizmodo. They already posted a little review of the adapter in action with a MacBook. It should also be noted that Monoprice offers Mini DisplayPort to DVI and Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters in their product line. They are priced at $15.20 and $18.85, respectively.

| Based on my experience with the ports, I would rather use the Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter. It also sells for half the money. |

$7.75 to be exact.

I'm just finding the Mini-DVI port to be less finicky than the Mini DisplayPort. I think that on top of the price makes it a better choice. I guess you could always go with a DVI to HDMI cable as well. |

Agreed! Why else would you include it in the standard? _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| That's a really good deal!! ...I guess if Apple sold these with their branding on it, they would cost $30+. O well, guess they haven't realized all TV's ship with HDMI nowadays. |

What do you mean by this? Is the MiniDP port capable of transmitting audio, or are you being sarcastic? |

The price Apple is asking for Mini-DP adapters is crazy. Even the ones from Monoprice are up there a bit. Especially when you compare them to the Mini-DVI adapters they sell. That being said, they are more reasonable than Apple. I was happy to give them my business for the Mini-DP to DVI. I also picked up a bunch of Cat-6 at the same time. |

From what I've read, the Mini-DP standard/spec supports the transfer of audio. Apple has just chosen not to use or enable it. Personally, I think that's a shame if you're trying to get people to jump onboard to the standard. Especially considering that's one of the biggest benefits HDMI has going head-to-head with Mini-DP. Even Monoprice states to check with your manufacturer to confirm if your device allows audio out through the Mini-DP interface. Don't you think that would look bad if someone else came in and supported it now? So why is Apple holding back on the standard? It doesn't make sense to me. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I have never heard anyone say whether or not the motherboard of the Mac Mini is hard wired for sound. It is still unclear if the Mini has a hardware or software limitation on rerouting sound through the MiniDP port.
Does anyone here know anyone that can dig into the hardware question? It would absolutely rock if it were just a matter of time before the software were enabled. |

I think that's the ten million dollar question. I'm leaning towards hardware, but I could be wrong. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I'll second that. It's one of the most unbelievably awesome places for low-priced, high quality cables.
