The chair throwing monkey king was commenting about that last week I think.
I wonder why I can't just go and buy Windows, instead of an upgrade?
I guess ripoff is relative...

If Apple sold a 15" or 17" laptop for $699, there wouldn't be a Microsoft. |

Who cares.....
MS is just preaching to the converted.
Besides, how dumb are Microsoft.
Apart from TV...to view it on the Net, you need Microsofts' Silverlight junkware.
But despite their attempt to flog it...nobody wants it...Not even MS's legions of Fanboys...
Their reluctance to use it, is understandable given that its a bug ridden failure with more than its fair share of ongoing incompatibility issues.
Yet MS keep flogging it in the hope some dumb ass will love it....
See below....for proof.

It's not going to happen, but I actually think that Apple should be selling more computers in the $500 to $1000 price range. They could probably double their market share in a matter of months. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

Preferably more towards the $500 end of the scale...

That's what I saw when I tried to watch it.
So.... how much of her budget did Lauren spend on anti-virus software and a couple of years' AV updates? _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

It's a great ad. The best M$ ad that I have ever seen.
That being said, now I have to make fun of it
This Lauren chick says "I'm just not cool enough to be a Mac person". It's funny how M$ is trying to portray being cool by using this actress. She drives a black VW convertible and needlessly wears a scarf in Southern California (everyone else is in a t-shirt or their jackets are wide open.)
Is Lauren stupid? If you could get a laptop for free with those features for <$1000 then why get the $700 model? Why not upgrade the RAM (at least) and make it $1000 or look for a higher end model. |

I've found the ad. Whereas MS prevent you from watching their own ad unless you've downloaded their bullshit software, a Google subsidiary places no such obstacles in your way... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=621NMj9_SR4
Bill's right. It is a great ad.
"I'm just not cool enough to be a Mac person". Really? Have you seen Woz's dance routines? _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

She's very smart. The $300 will go towards her every six month visit to Best Buy to have their "Geek Squad" clear out viruses and spyware, which won't actually happen, they'll just have to wipe the drive. She'll spend the remainder on Norton something-or-other which promises to keep viruses/spyware at bay, and it'll just cause major slowdowns on her system, go out of date and need more money after a year, and won't block as much spyware or viruses as free software will.
I think it's funny that the commercial basically admits that Macs are cool, and people who can't afford them aren't cool, so they're forced to shop at Best Buy with laptops covered in stickers. |

Aquafire, that was the same thing I saw! Since Silverlight doesn't run on PPC hardware, I didn't have to bother. However since the chair throwing monkey king was spouting off about Macs just recently, I knew what the ad was about.
Thanks JohnnyBoy for posting that YouTube link!
Don't they have to pay Apple for using an Apple store in an ad?
Anyway, what was her budget? It wasn't her money she was spending...

To each his own I guess. It's a good ad, You know I came across some old commercials on youtube that apple made 15yrs ago many of which poked fun at Microsoft. Apple has been making fun of windows for years so it's only fitting that once in awhile MS has to poke fun at apple, although the best they can up with is the price. Just makes me even prouder to own a mac, It's like owning a expensive car, or being part of a exclusive club, one that's just for cool people who have good taste.
Let's look at one of apple's classic ad's shall we:
