I absolutely love Safari 4. I don't even mind having the tabs on top. I would like having the refresh out of the address bar though. I also think the top sites feature is super cool. I like how they made it customizable too. I made sure to pin down 123Macmini, Macworld, Gizmodo, Engadget and SFN. The rest of my list was kind of embarrassing. Laughing

Why would I want to have basically unusable small versions of websites take over my full screen view? Why is this visual mode an improvement over just clicking on a tab? I don't need an unreadable icon view of web pages. Firefox has a plug in that does that, it's also only eye candy.

and who seriously uses cover flow to play music, after the initial ooh and ahh. I don't want gimmicks in the way of web browsing, sorry Safari.
sometimes Apple's GUI (innovative for GUIs) gets in the way of functionality IMO. the G should be as useful as the U and the I.

It's eye candy, but it's also handy when you're opening a new tab. Seven times out of ten you're going to a new address anyways. Why not have the sites you visit the most a click away? Plus, you can see if they've been updated.

I totally agree with you on this one. It can be nice looking at album art with cover flow, but that's about it. That being said, I don't even use it in iTunes anymore. I prefer the list or grid views.

I used Safari before but mostly use Firefox now because of mouse gestures and I love having my bookmarks on a sidebar.
Can Safari do those 2 things?
still don't understand why tabs are not more useful than mini webpages. Maybe FF tabs are different that old Safaris?
Also, I forgot that the big browser market is Windows, now I see why Safari is going for the glitz- poor Windows users, like something shiny to distract them.

I really like how the tabs are at the top now and I noticed a big boost in the scroll speed of large bookmark menus.

No real complaints here. I like the new feature set and it's really speedy. I'm talking loading paes and starting up.

Thanks. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work in Safari 3 (which does not recognise "topsites:" addresses) so I'll have to wait until Safari 4 becomes sufficiently stable to use.

I hope Apple offers an option to move the tabs back down when the final release comes out. Having them at the top seems to slow down my workflow. I would also like the old progress bar back in place of the wheel. Other than that, I'm fairly impressed with the other new features. It definitely feels faster than Safari 3 and the Fox.

I'm trying it now on my G4 Cube. Everything seems to work and I like the new tab and Top Sites features. When I click on a top site, though, it seems to load it twice. Anyone else notice this? I'm not sure if it actually is loading twice or if this is an artifact of the older processor and video card on an 8 year old model.

FYI, when you install Safari 4, it removes Safari 3. I was hoping to keep both while 4 is beta, but so far, I prefer 4 over 3.

So why the hell don't Apple release Safari to Linux users. Mad Question

Most particularly since Safari has its roots in Konqueror..Crying or Very sad

I guess Apple isn't interested in conquering Konquerer. Very Happy

It's actually pretty short sighted & stupid of Apple.

They would have a lot to gain by making friends with Linux users..

Just imagine all those coders working for nix for Apple..Cool

I think that is just a normal part or the animation or transition. It comes down after you click, sort of darkens out, and then refreshes the page. This happens on both of my Macs.

It's the recoil 'bounce' from the speed at which it downloads a page.

Just like a window shade that you pull down quickly, only to find it rolls up again...flapitty flapitty flapitty....

That's exactly the effect, castaway; now I know.
